Costa Rica’s Jungle Interior and Pristine Coastline
On this six-day, five-night trip from Beyond Boundaries Travel, you’ll drive across Costa Rica in a rental car and stay at hotels near some of the country’s biggest attractions—Arenal Volcano and the Manuel Antonio coastline. This self-guided vacation includes roundtrip airfare from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) or Miami International Airport (MIA). Explore the detailed trip itinerary here.
Los Lagos Hotel, Spa & Resort Highlights
The hotel is located right in the jungle. A 2-mile hike brings you to the Arenal Volcano observatory, where you can enjoy some of the best views of the peak.
Take a dip in the hotel’s natural hot-springs pools, which are heated underground by the volcano.
There’s a wealth of natural attractions onsite, including a crocodile farm, butterfly garden, and rainforest frog farm where you can see poison-dart frogs up close. You can also sign up for one of the hotel’s adventure tours.
Traditional Costa Rican food is served at the resort’s restaurant, Las Palmas. Look for local favorites such as gallo pinto, a breakfast dish made from rice, spicy black beans, eggs, cheese, and plantains.<p>
While You’re There
Just a few miles away is Arenal National Park, an active volcano currently in an indefinite resting phase. Lush rainforests overflowing with tropical birds surround its base, and, thanks to the geothermal activity underground, it’s home to fantastic natural hot springs.
Hotel La Mariposa Highlights
Since it was the first luxury hotel in the area, Hotel La Mariposa was able to snatch up the best spot on the coastline. From its elevated vantage point, you’ll have a 360-degree view of the Pacific Ocean and Manuel Antonio National Park.
The view and gardens onsite are so stunning, they earned the hotel a mention in the best-selling 1,000 Places to See Before You Die by Patricia Schultz.
The property’s 60 guest rooms have a Spanish-Mediterranean architectural design and are decorated with hand-carved furniture.
Several tours leave right from the resort, including sunset dinner cruises, whitewater-rafting trips, and kayaking excursions to Isla Damas.
Manuel Antonio National Park is one of Costa Rica’s most popular parks and also one of its smallest, spanning only 1,680 acres. What it lacks in size it makes up for in gorgeous beaches, rainforest hiking trails, and exotic wildlife such as howler monkeys.
