Orlando, Florida: World-Famous Theme Parks and Cultural Surprises

Located in the center of Florida, Orlando may be forever associated with the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks—the world’s most-visited entertainment resort. Spanning roughly 30,000 acres, it encompasses four theme parks, two water parks, five golf courses, and the Disney Springs® Area. There’s no shortage of things to do here: begin your day by boarding a rocket-shaped three-seater that climbs to 180 feet before entering a deep black tunnel and racing past stars, satellites, and constellations. Walk across the park to sample Moroccan cuisine for lunch, or ride a dune buggy through a haunted mansion. Before heading back to the hotel, take in the nightly fireworks, laser, and water show. One of the most popular family destinations in the world, sunny Orlando is also home to Universal Orlando—which includes The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—SeaWorld, and Gatorland.

Those hoping to shake up the typical theme-park-dominated itinerary can head into downtown Orlando's vibrant arts district. The neighborhood boasts venues such as CityArts Factory, a multifaceted patchwork of gallery spaces, and SAK Comedy Lab, which hosts family-friendly improv shows five nights a week.

Bad advertising When checking in, the receptionist should have mentioned that there was a bar on the 6th floor in our building. It has an amazing view!!! You can see the fireworks every night at 9 pm. from the outdoor bar seating area. It's a big space, comfortable seating and very inviting. The bar closes at 9 pm, which I find absolutely ABSURD!!! There were 22 of us up there last night. We had only been there 15 minutes and they still closed at 9pm. The money they missed out on every night is shameful!!! When we first got there, Matthew, the bartender, mentioned that he had only been there for 5 days. He then commenced to tell us a huge sob story about getting fired from Disney World. He admitted he was in the wrong, actually. He then began to sob...I kid you not!!! He was devastated that he lost his job at DW. I get it...but man, what a downer!! 3 days later, Matthew walked out on his job at Summer Bay. Chris, the manager, had the task of filling in once Matthew quit. He was the one on duty last night. He seemed very irritated and put out that we were all there. He served us one drink and called last call. Again, I get that you close at 9, but you had an opportunity to make some money. I promise you, that bar doesn't see enough traffic to allow ANY of your bartenders to make a decent living!!!! We would not have even known about the bar if not for a beer tasting flyer my husband happened to see. Poor advertising and poor communication. Ww checked in on Saturday. Found out about the bar Sunday afternoon. Got a note on our door Sunday evening informing us that our very private pool would be closed for maintenance Monday through Friday!!! 5 full days of our vacation. So, we ended up at the pool at The Clubhouse. Paul was our amazing bartender at Kokomo Tiki bar at the Clubhouse pool. He was fantastic. The young ladies working in the coffee shop were great as well. On a positive note, we met some great people, and our room was great. Full kitchen, great pool view, great fireworks view!! The grounds are amazing. Beautiful and green. The water was perfect. James was our waiter at the pool. Very friendly and helpful. The guards at the gate were always pleasant. Negative: they advertise paddle boats, kayaks, and jet skis. If you VALUE YOUR LIFE, stay away from those!!! There are alligators in the lake!!!! This is false advertising!!! We didn't see a single person take advantage of these resources.. again, why would you????? They do have bikes you can rent and fishing poles. It's very close to a grocery store and other activities such as billiards. Management, do better. Advertise your bar so you can keep bartenders!!!!! Stay open if you have 22 people in there at 9 pm. You've got a gem up there, and its potential is going to waste because nobody mentions it!!!! We won't be back here. Also, another plus was that we were not harassed about a timeshare. That was a nice surprise. Also, we were told by Matthew that we could stay on the bar deck as long as we wanted to because there was an exit we could use to leave after the bar closed. We were promptly told to leave at 9:15 by security and told we could not stay up there past 9. Funny enough, last night, Chris was bartenders and told us we could stay as long as we wanted...y'all need to get on the same page. Great resort, but lots of frustration!! Also, consider providing a trash can on the fishing pier. Trash left there from guests because they have nowhere out there to put trash!!
