10/22/23 i observed an attentive staff that went above and beyond to provide best vacation experience for all visitors. Despite widespread shortages in lettuce in N. Ga,, restaurant manager, Mike Johnson, drove 15-20 miles to Ellijay an guarantee a quality dinner service. Our young waiter, Colin, was very attentive to us, even though we were having the dinner buffet, complimentary with every stay.

Amicalola Falls State Park, Georgia: Picturesque Cascades near Historical Towns

About 70 miles north of Atlanta, Amicalola Falls State Park boasts cascades that are viewable from several vantage points for hikers. There are a number of trails in the park—the gently sloping 0.3-mile West Ridge Falls Access Trail boasts waterfall views for those avoiding a strenuous hike. For those who prefer to climb, a massive staircase leads trekkers up the mountainside adjacent to the waterfall, eventually arriving at the apex of the cliff. Serious hikers can make the 8.5-mile journey on the new Appalachian Approach Trail, which meanders past the falls to Springer Mountain. Once there, guests can hike a portion of the 2,175-mile Appalachian Trail, which winds its way north to Maine.

Housed within the historical Lumpkin County Courthouse, the Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site recounts the town's 1829 gold rush. The mining boom was brief but prosperous—a US branch mint opened and coined more than $6 million in gold before closing its doors in 1861. The museum also exhibits a set of gold coins, a hydraulic cannon once used for mining, and a gold nugget that weighs more than 5 ounces.

Rooms need deep cleaning Absolutely beautiful setting and lodge. The room lacked cleanliness; it was very dusty with stained carpet. I understand that the rooms will soon be renovated, but the dust (and even bugs) in the corners and bathroom walls need a deep cleaning; if this were done with routine cleaning this would not be an issue. Even parts of the hallway (a/c return vent falling out of wall) and stained carpet could be corrected with minor maintenance. Love this gem and hate to see it decline.

Where to begin….dont waste your time or money here Where to start…when we arrived to our campsite the electrical wouldn’t work and water was pooling near the electrical outlets. The campground host informed us she would call the manager to come out and that worst case scenario they could put us up in the lodge if the electrical wasn’t able to be fixed. We waited for at least 30 minutes for the manager to come out before finally hooking back up and driving to the visitor center/check in but it was closed. Couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone on all the contact numbers we tried. (This was around 4:30-5PM) The manager finally calls us and tells us the electrical is working properly because he just checked it, almost as if he thought we were making it up or too dumb to know how to plug our camper in properly. So we drive back to the campsite and hook it up and show him it is not working and point out the water leaking out near the line. We ask to move to a different campsite and he says they are all full. We ask to stay in the lodge and he says they are all full. He says the only option is to fix the electrical at the campsite even though we have told him we aren’t comfortable staying there with such an obvious safety hazard. (And could not promise that we would have water-evidently a water line was leaking/burst because the water at the bathhouse was also not working.) He insists that’s the only thing that can be done. We are three hours away from home with a 6-month old baby who by this time is in desperate need of being settled in for the night. So we agree to have him just fix the electrical at the campsite and get out of there first thing next morning. He tinkers with it for awhile and then tell us it’s an issue that cannot be fixed (we already knew that 1.5 hours prior and tried to tell him). Only then does he move us to the campsite next to ours. From the moment we arrived till we left, everyone we came into contact with was unprofessional, incompetent, and had no compassion for the situation. Over the course of the weekend, we’ve tried calling the park multiple times to speak to someone but can’t get an answer or anyone to return messages we’ve left. The attitude everyone seemed to have was “sorry- there’s nothing that can be done, not our problem, I understand you have a baby- nothing we can do, good luck.” Don’t waste your time or money here.

Disappointed about food at the restaurant. We thought we were having either grilled ribeye, fried chicken or trout, as advertised. Well, boy were we surprised. We had a seafood buffet, if you call fried catfish seafood, which it is not and a few vegetables, which weren’t good. Very disappointed. Will not be back. We suggest you call and find out what is being served. Our waiter said it changes a lot. Obviously no one cares about their customers. _
