Myrtle Beach, South Carolina: Sandy Beaches, Golf Courses, and Classic Amusement-Park Rides

Myrtle Beach is the crown jewel of South Carolina's Grand Strand, a 60-mile stretch of white-sand beaches along the Atlantic seaboard that draws surfers, fishers, and kayakers. The city was named one of the best vacation spots in the United States for a family by USA Today, in part because of its wooden boardwalk, which stretches for more than a mile and buzzes with carnival games and amusement-park rides. Hop into the SkyWheel Ferris wheel's gondolas, surrounded by more than a million LED lights, for a panoramic view of the city below.

Less than 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach, the tiny fishing village of Murrells Inlet provides a tranquil contrast to the boardwalk's hustle and bustle. At Brookgreen Gardens, more than 2,000 sculptures stand amid sprawling floral gardens and massive, moss-covered oak trees that have been around for centuries. Murrells Inlet is also home to the Tom Fazio–designed TPC Myrtle Beach golf course, 1 of nearly 100 courses in the area that helped Myrtle Beach earn its title as the seaside golf capital of the world.

Family vacation 2024 We have always loved the Anderson from the location, the rooms & even the parking garage: there used to be security walking around the parking garage but we did not encounter anyone this year but we are always alert of our surroundings. We never went to the pool as they are always crowded and parents don’t seem to want to discipline their kids or just leave them to do what they want while running into ppl in the lazy river or pushing past ppl using the lazy river as intended. The room was on the 6th floor—my fault for not asking for a higher room but the desk person tried to see if she could find something for us on a higher floor which I appreciated. I love the text messaging which makes it so easy to ask for towels, garbage to be removed etc and there was no hesitation to accommodate my requests. We did call the front desk but as others have stated, they are busy and don’t always answer. We had an issue with the dishwasher and safe which were addressed. The dishwasher could not be replaced without the owners permission; that’s when we realized our room was privately owned & I have to say I’m not sure what that ownership looks like but what a shame not to have better accommodation as an owner. The dishwasher was not attached so if you pulled the trays out too far, it tipped over. The safe seemed to have a short but the maintenance person came up and had no issues; I did notice the microwave had the same display issue so must’ve been in the wiring. We had people throwing trash and water from upper balconies which is a shame and were limited when we could sit on the balcony due to the pot smell. Unfortunately this is becoming too common and out of the hotels control. The elevators seem to have a mind of their own with the new code or card requirement to select your room number. Overall we enjoyed the beach and the hotel. Will we go back that’s up in the air, we may try another resort next year.

HGV Owners - Beware! This is a not a full HGV property! IF you are a HGV Ower, be aware that Hilton Grand Vacations has allowed their name to be used with this "resort." This "resort" is a combination of HGV and Anderson Ocean Club. This property also has full time residents and everyone is just mixed together. You will not discover this unless you just happen to complain to HGV sales reps down at Enclave. We visited Andersen Ocean Club in June, 2024 and I guess their were signs from the start. Check-in was very slow with only 1 employee on a non-busy Wednesday afternoon. There were no greetings. The woman just wanted our credit card and ID and certainly wanted us to see the concierge so they can do the usual up-selling. Our room was on the 18th floor and facing the ocean. Again at first everything seemed OK. There was a strong smell suggesting the room has been thoroughly scrubbed. It was not until a few days later did this smell went away and now a musty, moldy smell came about, especially in the bathroom. The "resort" uses "Covid-19" as an excuse to not clean the room until after 5 days. If you have trash, just throw it outside of your room. It's always pleasant to walk by piles of smelly garbage when going to your room! Our bed creaked and groan when you barely touched it. I did bring this up with the concierge on our 2nd day and an attempt to fix it was done that day. The bed was quieter but not completely fixed. As you can see with the included pictures the rooms are not cleaned properly. The ceiling fans just made you notice how the rest of the room was not a clean as it could be and somewhat rough. It certainly was nowhere near what had come to expect with other HGV resorts. By Saturday they had no more clean towels to offer guests and rationed what they had left. They claim their cleaning service did not make it's "usual" delivery so not everyone gets a fresh towel! OK... The pools and pool area are not very relaxing. It was cramped even on weekdays and on Friday or Saturday, forget about. There is zero supervision of what's going. We are way beyond kids just having fun, which kids should be able to do but kids were allowed to run amok in the evening. Kids were slamming pool noodles on to the ground over and over making loud banging noises. Nobody stopped them. Other kids were jumping (from waterfall with the "No Jumping" sign) on to boogie board. The boogie board broke and the foam was spreading around the pool. Towels were not availed for an hour or two on Saturday and one employee did manage to bring in a cart full of pool towels. But because of the mayhem we never went in to the pool. On a good note most hotel employee's we came across in the elevator area were polite and there was some friendly banter while riding with them. They don't make the rules though and you can sense the frustration.
