Chicago, IL: Where Architectural Majesty Meets Cultural Legacy

Rising proudly along the southern shore of Lake Michigan, Chicago stands as a monument to American resilience, innovation, and design. From the ashes of the Great Fire of 1871, the city reimagined itself as the birthplace of the modern skyscraper, laying the foundation for what would become one of the world’s most iconic skylines. Historic landmarks such as the Wrigley Building and Tribune Tower coexist with striking modern marvels like the Aqua Tower, creating a living gallery of architectural evolution. Home to the influential Chicago School and the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright, the city’s built environment is a tribute to bold vision and craftsmanship.

But Chicago is more than its structures—it's a city alive with cultural richness and civic pride. Millennium Park, with its reflective Cloud Gate sculpture, invites both tourists and locals to engage with public art in the heart of downtown. Just steps away, the Art Institute of Chicago houses masterpieces spanning centuries, while the nearby Magnificent Mile pulses with luxury retail, world-class dining, and theatrical brilliance. From jazz clubs in historic basements to mural-covered alleyways in Pilsen, Chicago’s cultural tapestry is as dynamic as its skyline. It’s a city that honors its past while shaping the future—unapologetically vibrant, diverse, and unmistakably American.

Would definitely stay again! We travel to downtown Chicago 2-3 times a year. This is our first time staying at the Arlo, and we had a great stay. Our bed was very comfortable and the room was extremely clean. We also had amazing views from our room. My only complaint is we couldn't communicate with the front desk. I wanted an extra pillow and I tried to call down. The phone didn't work. The hotel did text us asking if we wanted anything. We asked for a pillow. Even though they said it was on its way, it never came. I sent some follow up texts and never got one. I ended up getting my pillow from my car. Other than that, it was a great stay!

Solo travel for a few days. Would recommend. Stayed at Arlo Chicago as a solo traveller for a couple of days. Really central. Clean. Nice staff. Really good value for money. Stayed in room 1405 with a nice room (king bed). No view but didn't care about it. Would recommend for solo or a couple traveling. Would stay there again. Kudos to the luggage man (African American) who was super helpful.
