North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina: Sandy Beaches, Fresh Seafood, and Classic Amusement-Park Rides

North Myrtle Beach is at the tip of South Carolina's Grand Strand, a 60-mile stretch of white, sandy beaches along the Atlantic seaboard that draws surfers, fishers, and kayakers. The town's Cherry Grove Pier bustles with activity during the fishing season, and you can rent a rod nearby to take your place alongside veteran anglers. Nearby restaurants serve up fresh, cooked-to-order crab, shrimp, and fish.

About a half-hour southwest of North Myrtle Beach is Myrtle Beach proper, which USA Today named one of the best family vacation spots in the United States, in part because of its wooden boardwalk, which stretches for more than a mile and buzzes with carnival games and amusement-park rides. Hop into the SkyWheel's glass-floored gondolas, surrounded by more than a million LED lights, for a panoramic view of the city.

More than expected We stayed here for a 4 night 5 day visit. The rooms were more than we expected. They have 2 double beds in a separate room and 1 murphy bed in the living room. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. You have a fully stocked kitchen and a stackable washer/dryer in the hall way. They provide you with dish detergent, washing powder, etc.. There is also a dishwasher in the room. In the living area you have a couch, chair, some have an ottoman with the chair, ours didn't. Large TV with a DVD player if you want to use it, coffee table and end tables, and chairs on the balcony. The room was very clean. We were in room 108 and the balcony for that room is right over the pool area, but it's one of the larger balconys they have. The room was located in the middle of the north and south towers so we were close to the restaurant, and elevators. Overall it was a great stay.

Looks like it would be a colossal resort but fails to deliver what is advertised. I have been to many resorts in my 50 plus years of coming to North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach. Ocean Drive has become what Myrtle Beach used to be before it became a ghetto. There is plenty to do in the city of Ocean Drive. If you are seeking places for food and entertainment. It will be awesome. However, the Avista resort advertises such an inclusive resort is totally not what I envisioned. All of their pools are 3 ft deep except the indoor has a small 5-ft section in the middle of the indoor pool. It makes swimming totally difficult for the average adult. The pools outside were cold and non-heated also. Most inclusive resorts have huge pools that I've been to where adults can swim laps and they usually heat them.I noticed hardly any adults were swimming and now I know why! None of the hot tubs were really hot and had zero leg and foot action. Mainly just back jet hot tubs. Also most were not really full with water and couldn't reach your upper back. That's real cheesy for an inclusive resort. The restaurant main Street was extremely expensive. It was not very inviting and didn't have very reasonable selections like most resorts I've been to. Also most resorts have buffets which this one did but not as expensive. Also, they limit your options on beverages. When most resorts when you do the buffet will give you every kind of drink you want for morning breakfast. This place seems to limit you to coffee with breakfast. If you get any other kind of beverage, you pay for each one. That's not what other resorts do. I have one resort where I get hot chocolate, orange juice and iced tea and still only paid the buffet price of $15 or $16 a pop. That's the way they should do at the Avista. Drove down to Cherry Grove to Boulineaus a grocery store 5 mins straight North has an awesome restaurant and you can get everything. They do three meals a day there so it's a much better option than the Avista resort Main Street restaurant. I will say if they do have a strong suit their rooms are pretty neatly laid out with a nice view of the ocean. Also, I felt like 10 pm is a little early to be closing your pools. Most all-inclusive resorts I've been to are 11:00 p.m. and 12. I mean it's not really going to make a difference here. Hardly anybody swims or uses the hot tubs anyway because they're not that good. If you're like me, when you go to a place this big you expect great hot tubs and pools. This one does not deliver on that one. Felt like a very small resort trying to be big time. Truly misses the mark on pools and food offerings. Needs to learn something from the Britannia resorts which are all of the above that I mentioned. I would pick Beach Cove, Baywatch ,or Sea Watch over this one. This is just a very small hotel trying to be big time in a dime store dress. Heavily advertised but not that good.

Great amenities We really enjoyed the amenities on site at Avista! We had a large group, and it was nice to have different options for everybody! The view was great! It was nice to have some dining options on site because the parking situation was a bit of a nightmare. We witnessed multiple people scrape the side of their vehicle in the parking garage when they met other vehicles. We really loved the Hula Fire Show, I would recommend keeping them! All of the staff members were very friendly! We loved the hotel itself and the amenities, but I don't know if we would try that parking garage again!
