San Diego, California: Historical Attractions and Electric Nightlife in Southern California

San Diego’s sunny, comfortably warm weather and 70 miles of coastline have long attracted vacationing out-of-towners, but the city’s inland scene is no slouch, either. The Gaslamp Quarter is arguably the trendiest listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The area forms both the historic center of town and a hub of San Diego nightlife, with nearly 100 Victorian-era buildings occupied by high-end boutiques, jewelers, and gourmet restaurants.

A stroll through iconic Balboa Park takes you past 17 separate museums, as well as the world-famous and much beloved San Diego Zoo. There’s also the vibrant Spanish Village Art Center, a living gallery where local artists produce pottery, handblown glass, and oil paintings for sale.

Farther north, in Old Town—site of the first European settlement in California—shops in Mission-style stucco buildings sell colorful wrestling masks, woven baskets, and maracas. Nearby stands the Whaley House Museum, dubbed one of the Most Terrifying Places in America by the Travel Channel. Ghosts of former residents are said to inhabit the rooms, which are filled with Victorian furniture, eerie dolls, and squeegees for ectoplasm cleanup.

Enjoyable stay This was our first time staying at Bahia, and we really enjoyed our stay. We had a nice room on the 4th floor with a view of the bay, close to everything. The grounds were beautiful, flowers and palms everywhere and well maintained. We really enjoyed walking the grounds. It's also easy walking distance to Mission Beach, with all the shops, restaurants and activities there. The vast majority of people are very friendly, not only saying hello, but taking the time to engage in a conversation. We ate at both restaurants, enjoyed our food, service and atmoshphere. The pool area and fitness room are nice, with a huge jacuzzi we enjoyed soaking in. When checking into our room we were told we would get a $50 resort credit each day, which we would lose if we didn't use it. We used it each day at a resort restaurant, but upon checking out were told it was only one $50 for our entire stay. We had called twice to verify the daily credit, so ate on site and didn't appreciate the change at checkout. One other issue we had was with housekkeeping. The sheets were not clean when we checked in, and when we called to get the room serviced the lady on our floor had a real attitude. She did the work we requested, but would not even acknowdledge our presence. My wife is fluent in Spanish, so I don't think it was a language barrier. Jana at the front desk was very understanding, and we appreciated her taking off the daily fee for our trouble. Overall it was a good stay, we're considering returning with our garndkids. There is a very friendly family atmosphere.

Bad venue for wedding Crappy venue for wedding. Food was lame, one co-ed bathroom for entire party that ran out of toilet paper early, no parking for guests AND after allowing 6 angry young men (wedding crashers) into the event were nowhere around to help remove them.

Horrible, made attending the event difficult Do not book for any events. attended wedding here and would not allow guests to park car in a family member’s space. No on-site parking for the wedding, forced 2 elderly women to compete for parking at a beach lot and walk a half mile to the wedding.
