Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

Filthy hotel with rude and disrespectful front desk workers I was given a complementary room for three nights in the month of October and we were going to be in town a Saturday and a Sunday night and my reservation clearly stated a king bed non-smoking tower room The reservation said get there early to secure that room. You will be fine. After parking and experiencing that extremely long walk, we got to the counter and we were told there were absolutely no rooms available in the tower, which I know was untrue, that the garden room area was completely closed again. We saw people going on and off this elevator so that was untrue as well and that they were going to put us in the Dennis Tower. All they had were two queens and it was not a non-smoking room We are too seniors, looking for peace and quiet who have spent a lot of money in this casino and I told her it says right in my reservation that if I was going to have to stay in the Dennis tower, I needed to know that . This woman who was wearing a stupid face mask for absolutely no reason was giving us so much attitude I finally said I needed to speak to someone whose face I could see because we were very far away from each other so apparently she was wearing a face mask to hide her identity When I tell you that she was nasty that doesn’t even begin to describe how vicious she was to us . This manager comes out and tells us that you’re not guaranteed a certain room when they’re complementary and I told them the last time we stayed in that filthy Dennis Tower there were fights, the police were there, drugs, total chaos. He said there’s nothing I can do for you. He never once said if you’d like to pay for an upgrade, we can offer that . We were in town for a show and it was a Saturday so I knew our choices were limited. We asked if we could at least go see the room and that nasty woman that they stuck at the front desk told us they don’t do things like that I told them that I need to cancel the reservation because there was no way I was going to stay there and the entire casino like I said is filthy and so smelly of cigarette smoke and shady characters. I just wanted to get out of there. We were able to get a room at the Hard Rock which was beautiful and exactly met our needs but then I started getting emails from Bally’s telling me that I didn’t cancel my reservation so I still owe them taxes on the room I had to call them. I had to explain everything and they canceled it, but I should not have to do that on my weekend respite The people that work at the Balley’s hotel are more interested in apparently being extremely racist and nasty to senior citizens then they are doing their job . Go elsewhere! Do yourself a favor don’t take them up on their comp room offers because you would be better off sleeping on the beach

Bally Whoooo? The room was good ( however ) we were told that there were 10 buses in the hotel. I was on one of those buses. The restaurant opened late (8am) and most all the people on the travel buses are seniors who get up very early. It seemed we all converged at the same time to get breakfast only to find that the restaurant wait staff was a total of 3 . The food was delicious but the wait time in line was upsetting due to lack of staff. The hotel had downsized staff due to the summer being over. That left us fall folk waiting in line. Management needs to look at giving all guests the service it boasts no matter the time of the year.

One night Housekeeping really needs improvement. The room was not properly cleaned—there were stained sheets and hair left in the bathroom. It also took 45 minutes just to get extra towels delivered. Thankfully, I only stayed one night, and that was more than enough.
