Boulder, Colorado: Artsy College Town in the Foothills of the Rockies

Boulder sits at the base of the Flatirons, craggy sandstone mountains that give way to the majestic Rockies. They’re interspersed by lakes, reservoirs, and pine forests, creating a rugged landscape that’s ideal for outdoor adventure. Rent a mountain bike or strap on a hiking backpack to explore the exhilarating Royal Arch Trail, which winds through 3.2 miles of red-rock outcroppings and huge boulders. You’ll be rewarded at the end with a landmark rock arch and distant views of Denver’s skyline. In winter, you can head to Eldora Mountain Resort for downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.

Boulder’s sprawling wilderness complements the city’s eco-conscious attitude—think farm-to-table fare with lots of local produce. The restaurants and brewpubs draw in a lot of traffic from the University of Colorado, which has its main campus in town. You’re sure to find live music and open mics nearly every night of the week; visit on a weekend in autumn and you might be able to catch a Colorado Buffaloes football game at Folsom Field. A brisk walk from the stadium brings you to pedestrian-friendly Pearl Street Mall, where you can browse art galleries and quirky boutiques (85% of the shops here are locally owned and operated).

Very nice and clean. Staff was fantastic and helpful. It was near by Pearl Street, which is their downtown area. Only two cons was the tubs are very small and when I wanted to watch TV at the end of the day out of the 300 channels there was no Travel Channel. It was listed on the guide but unavailable. Other than that we stay again because the price was worth the stay.

Best. Hotel. Ever. The Basecamp Boulder Hotel exceeded all expectations during my weekend stay. Maddy at the front desk was an absolute standout - her warm welcome and local hiking recommendations made us feel like valued guests from the moment we arrived. The mountain-inspired decor perfectly captures Boulder's outdoor spirit, with climbing-themed artwork and cozy spaces to unwind after adventures. Our room was spotless and well-appointed, featuring stunning Flatirons views and thoughtful touches like a gear storage area and local trail maps. The complimentary breakfast offered plenty of healthy options to fuel our outdoor activities. The hotel's location can't be beat - just minutes from Pearl Street and with easy access to countless hiking trails. Special thanks again to Maddy for going above and beyond - from securing last-minute dinner reservations to providing detailed trail conditions. Her enthusiasm for Boulder is contagious! Whether you're here to climb, hike, or explore downtown, Basecamp Boulder provides the perfect home base.

STAY FOR THE FIRE PITS super cozy and inviting space. Maddy was amazingly friendly as well!! I came for a work event and the space was exactly what we needed! I am excited to use the hot tub and sauna but I forgot my suit so I'll just to sit at the bar and drink win!!!!!!!

I used to like this place! I’ve stayed at base camp folder twice in the past, It was always a nice pleasant experience until now. It is in desperate need of an overhaul. My room was dingy with dirty, torn carpet, poorly lit, broken shades, broken bathtub drain and my door wouldn’t close properly. There was a space at the top of the hotel room door and you could see to the outside, which made it fairly unpleasant in November. I asked to switch to a different room the next morning and was offered an equally disgusting room which I declined. The woman at the front desk kindly offered me an updated room which was slightly better besides the torn carpet. Bring a flashlight because as soon as it gets dark, you can’t see down the stairs until the spotlights come on later. This should be adjusted. I will not be staying here again.
