Saint Lucia: French-Inspired Cuisine and Spectacular Volcanoes

Located in between Martinique and Saint Vincent in the eastern Caribbean, Saint Lucia was coveted by the British and French, who quarreled over the island for more than a century. Although English is now Saint Lucia's official language, the French seem to have left a more noticeable influence on its arts and cuisine. Along the coast, a string of marinas exhibits a cultural blend through restaurants ranging from fried-fish shacks to upscale French eateries. Grab a table to sample meaty pepperpot stew, spinach-like callaloo soup, or the country’s national dish of green fig—a Caribbean term for small, unripe bananas—and salt fish.

With several beaches, Saint Lucia attracts those looking for snorkeling excursions, dolphin-watching tours, or deep-sea fishing trips in search of blue marlin, barracuda, and mako shark. Crowds descend on the popular Reduit Beach at Rodney Bay, not too far from the 18th-century British forts at Pigeon Island National Park. For a less hectic scene, head south down the coast to Anse Chastanet, a more secluded beach with giant palm trees and undulating green hills.

A vacation in Saint Lucia is not complete without a visit to one of its volcanoes. Considered the country’s unofficial symbol, the Pitons are two vegetation-covered volcanic plugs rising more than 2,000 feet above the western coast. Nearby Saint Lucia Volcano is considered "the world's only drive-in volcano," as you can drive your car close to the volcanic crater to see its steaming sulfur springs.

The staff's genuine care and concern for guests. You can tell they have fun at work and like each other. To have one front desk agent work in the same position for 10 years says a lot about the values of the business. I really enjoyed having the option to chat with the team at the resort prior to arrival. I particularly want to think Rita at the tour desk and Laudra. They were both exceptional!

I would give 0 stars if we could. Not because of Bay Gardens but because of Groupon. This trip was ultimately cancelled because of COVID-19 Travel restrictions by both the US and St. Lucian Government and cancelled flights from American Airlines. Groupon has been completely unresponsive to a resolution and have offered us NO refund or even groupon credit. They even changed their Getaways terms of service during this time and have eliminated the " Groupon Guarentee" AFTER we made our purchase. This is completely bad business, considering we have spent THOUSANDS with Groupon on other International Getaways, they will never receive a penny from us again.

Excellent Stay Excellent stay at Bay Gardens beach resort. Everything was top notch. The food, the beach and especially the service. Shout out to harmony for the fabulous service. We want to extend a special thanks to Tasia in the restaurant for going above and beyond for us. You are definitely something special. Bay Gardens should be honored to have you.

Decent resort. We traveled here for my friends 30th birthday. The rooms were average, the lock to the patio door was sketchy and the door could easily be opened with enough force. Truly a safety concern. The venders who you are told stick to the beach approached us multiple times on the resort property trying to sell us things. The wall around like they are also guests there, that’s ridiculous. Housekeeping was good some days horrible the next. One night I had to go hunt down my own toilet paper because we were never brought any. The same for wash cloths. I truly didn’t enjoy my experience here but me and my 3 friends genuinely tried to make the best of it. Out of 5 nights here we maybe enjoyed 2.
