Gatlinburg, Tennessee: Charming Artists’ Village amid Great Smoky Mountains

Gatlinburg rests near Tennessee’s eastern border, less than 3 miles from Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Here, you can hike more than 100 trails that wind past waterfalls and pioneer-era log cabins tucked deep within densely forested mountains. Or, take a bicycle ride on the 11-mile loop through Cades Cove, a broad valley of open meadows where you can see deer, black bears, and wild turkeys. Clingmans Dome, the park’s highest point of elevation at 6,643 feet, is a great place to catch the sunset.

Gatlinburg’s main attraction is probably the artists’ loop. It comprises more than 100 craft shops, studios, and cafés, and you can watch artisans as they hand weave baskets and whittle wooden figurines. Downtown Gatlinburg itself is a mountain village filled with old-fashioned ice-cream shops and boutiques selling housemade jams and decorative gewgaws.

Our experience at Bent Creek Golf Village was one of the best experiences we have ever had. The front staff were welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable, and valued your time. The 1 bedroom condo was the perfect size for a family of 4 (two adults and 2 teenagers). The property is 20 minutes away from Gatlinburg, but that was okay. We got to enjoy the beautiful view while driving.

Could Not Have Booked a Better Place We chose to stay here for our Gatlinburg family vacation based on reviews, room variety and cost, and were not disappointed! We stayed in a 1 bedroom golf course view villa and had a beautiful view from the screened in balcony. The villa was very clean and had everything we needed to make meals, wash dishes, do laundry, etc. The property itself was well maintained and nice as it included access to a children’s playground, indoor/outdoor pool, hot tub, small game room, and fitness center. We traveled with our 1 year old and had no issues with noise. The resort was very quiet and pleasant, and they seem to take maintaining that seriously. The staff were phenomenal, accommodating, and resolved any issues we had. They even delivered a hand written letter to our room with a smoky mountains magnet to thank us for staying with them. We really appreciated this gesture. They do ask you to come to a timeshare presentation but are professional about it and not pushy. The resort itself is about 10-20 minutes from most attractions but never deterred us from doing anything we wanted to do. We liked the seclusion of the location and it was easy to find and get to. The area it is technically located in is called Pitman Center. All things considered, this is a hidden gem in the Smokies. As someone who has traveled often, I would recommend this resort to anyone and my husband and I have discussed booking here again in the future.
