Treasure Island, Florida: Three Miles of White-Sand Beachfront

Treasure Island got its name after a group of enterprising hotel owners buried—and later “discovered”—a couple of fake treasure chests along the beach. In spite of their farce, the name stuck. So all right, you won’t find any buried treasure here, but surely you can console yourself with 3 miles of white sand along the Gulf of Mexico. Head to the middle of the island for extra-wide beaches lined with shops, restaurants, and bars. There’s also a walking pier that runs parallel to the shoreline between 104th and 119th Avenues.

A great way to explore Treasure Island and nearby beach communities is by taking the Suncoast Beach Trolley. It runs along the Gulf coast from St. Pete Beach to Clearwater, stopping at many popular beaches along the way. Just across the bridge, St. Petersburg’s charming waterfront downtown is also worth a visit. You’ll find art-deco buildings, broad streets lined with palm trees, and the Dali Museum, which displays many of the paintings, sculptures, and melted timepieces of surrealist master Salvador Dalí.

Super fun stay on Treasure Island Great stay. Older hotel going through some remodeling, but that didn't effect our stay. Super friendly staff, from check in, bar staff, housecleaners, to pool all staff were on point. Will be all the better when reno is done! Would definitely recommend.

Sunset Beach Photos Our female photographer was great! We haven’t had family pictures taken like this and she definitely made it a great first-time experience. She worked well with our twins and made the experience fun- even with a storm rolling in! We will definitely use this great amenity again when we come back to visit!

Old world charm but needs a bit of love It’s a strange place. We stayed here because the thunderbird next door holds some special memories however that was full so this was the next closest place. We received very warm welcome from Heather on the front desk - she was warm, kind and explained everything. The place itself is very tired, it’s a 50/60’s building and it really shows. That is part of the charm though so if you go into it with your eyes open and enjoy the laid back time capsule you’ll probably enjoy it. The room was clean but old. The elevators are ancient and encouraged us to use the stairs. The pools (2) were clean and well looked after and the free beach ball we got on check in was a nice touch. The beds were very very comfy. Would I stay again? I’m not sure. If they refurbed it all then definitely. If it was cheaper then again, I’d stay. Unfortunately we stayed in a busy period and for the price we paid there are a lot of newer and more up to date options. We returned to treasure island 10 days later and stayed in a more modern property that suited us better, it didn’t have the charm of the oldey worldey properties like Bilmar. I really hope they return it to its former glory and also share the story of how the property came into being. Treasure island is stuck in a time bubble and it’s all the better for it. For me the Bilmar will forever be part of that bubble. Thanks to the team who looked after us and especially to heather who checked us in and found us a parking space!

Great vacation spot! Very very nice experience! Did all sorts of activities on the resort and at John’s pass. I ended the day with an amazing sunset photo shoot. He did perfect and they came out even better than I imagined. Thank you Brock and the crew at BILMAR for a wonderful vacation.
