KEY WEST, FL: THE SOUTHERNMOST GEM OF AMERICA

Perched at the tip of the Florida Keys, Key West is a sun-drenched paradise where turquoise waters meet vibrant history. This island city, barely four miles long and two miles wide, exudes an eclectic charm with its pastel-hued conch houses, swaying palm trees, and bustling Duval Street. Once a haven for pirates, wreckers, and literary giants like Ernest Hemingway, Key West wears its storied past with pride. The iconic Southernmost Point Buoy marks the closest spot to Cuba, just 90 miles away, while the historic Mallory Square comes alive each evening with sunset celebrations, street performers, and the golden glow of the dipping sun.

Beyond its postcard-perfect beaches, Key West thrives as a cultural melting pot, blending Bahamian, Cuban, and American influences into its cuisine, architecture, and laid-back lifestyle. The island’s maritime heritage is preserved at the Key West Shipwreck Museum, while the Ernest Hemingway Home offers a glimpse into the writer’s adventurous life. From the lively bars serving potent rum runners to the serene beauty of Fort Zachary Taylor State Park, Key West is a place where history, hedonism, and natural beauty collide in the most enchanting way.

Beauty is only skin-deep Pros: Comfortable room Very comfortable bed Steamer instead of iron TV has alarm clock feature Thermostat works (buttons on AC unit don't) Pool is beautiful, clean, and warm Poolside towels Permitted to use amenities at other hotels on "Rooster Row" Ocean view (from upper floors) Amazing ambience, indoors and outdoors Earplugs provided Open Water (seltzer water that comes in aluminum bottles) Cons: NO COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST On-site Toasted Coconut does not open until 8:00 AM (I had to go to work) Rooster liked to roost in a tree directly outside my room and crow at random hours of night for 30 minutes at a time Provided earplugs barely muffled sound Way too many gates, super annoying to open with only one free hand Have to press a button just to leave the lobby Music in lobby was kind of loud Music outdoors was also sometimes loud Fitness room is in its own pavilion with 3 glass walls (I am self-conscious) WiFi was totally absent one night, and I heard that Ethernet is poor too Shuttle goes to Northwest part of island, nowhere close to Old Town Parking is $15/day (and they didn't tell me when I booked my room)

Would recommend I was a little nervous about coming here based on the reviews but we had a great stay. Reviews indicated that check in was a slow and frustrating process but we had zero issues - fast and efficient service. Reviews also stated that it was difficult to get service during the stay (mechanical support, house keeping etc). Again, we had no issues here. The fridge wasn't working properly but someone came right away to fix it. Same with the safe. There was no shampoo in the shower but we were quickly given a new bottle at the front desk. Booking tours and renting golf carts was easy and seamless. Pool area was beautiful and well maintained. You are a distance from the old town core -and parking is very expensive when you get down there so that was frustrating at times -so just a heads up to factor that into your plans. The shuttle only runs every hour and is $20 for a family of 4 so not a great alternative. Overall a good stay and would recommend.

Awful!!! Never again!!! Pictures are deceiving. Stayed on 3rd floor. Both elevators out of order. Air conditioner did not work. Had to move to another room. DO NOT book ocean view room. Sirens and traffic ALL night! Brick wall blocked view. Not really ocean, either. The whole room(s) FILTHY!!! The floors are filthy! The night stands haven't been cleaned for months. Sticky, dusty, lot's of other guest hair present. Dead cockroaches! Stepped out of shower, walked barefoot across floor and feet were black. Oh, and the roosters start crowing at 3a.m.!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
