Blue River Resort - Packs the Adventure Blue River Resort is a special place. Set your expectations for the drive in - when folks say the road is rough / they aren’t kidding. It’s about an hour of unpaved and partial-paved roads off the main route from LIR. Once on property - we felt like visitors on an Indiana Jones adventure. Truly exotic and unique grounds, incredible pools and springs and a volcanic mud-bath experience we treasured. For such a remote resort, we thought the food and drinks were great, service solid and pricing reasonable. For excursions - we did the thrilling and white-knuckle hike / climb to the cathedral waterfall - complete with stray cows, a bat guano experience (lol) and a thrilling river-crossing and rope-assisted traverse to the river. Awesome! This place packs the adventure and then fills the relaxing piece with incredible pools, food and service. Big recommendation here.

Immerse yourself in Costa Rica’s northern rainforest at a secluded eco-resort featuring volcanic hot springs, lush tropical gardens, and easy access to hiking, waterfalls, and adventure activities. Perfect for travelers seeking both relaxation and exploration.

Beautiful relaxing resort The grounds were beautiful and relaxing. The staff were all very kind and extremely helpful and accommodating. My 2 small excursions were horseback riding and a hike to a waterfall. Both were fun and interesting with good guides. The food was tasty and fresh. The fresh pineapple juice was amazing. The pools were lovely and felt great on my skin. I had a good massage at the spa. As others said, the road to get there is rough. The resort's airport transportation was excellent and timely. Bring your umbrella and/or poncho, it's the rainforest, so expect it to rain. On excursions be prepared to get muddy and walk in soggy poopy pastures. You're deep in nature, you'll get dirty. Brush up on your basic Spanish, you're visiting their country, don't expect them to speak your language. The reason I gave less than 5 stars is the menu was limited so it was repetitive, and most of the tours were not available unless I paid for the minimum number of participants (4) or they just weren't available. I went to this resort by myself, there were no other singles, and without the excursions there wasn't enough for me to do. Weak WiFi, not many English tv channels, so I was bored. Thanks again to the amazing staff!

A memorable experience! The Blue River Resort is a magical place, with spacious individual cabanas, gorgeous grounds, a variety of hot springs pools, and delicious food. The staff is friendly and helpful. Be prepared for a rough drive as the last hour from Liberia is almost all dirt roads.

Great place for families with kids or nature lovers Great place for families with kids or nature lovers. Be prepared for a bumpy ride as dirt roads are in bad shape. Loved the hot springs, the hummingbird and butterfly centers.

Extraordinary oasis This is an extraordinary oasis in the middle of nowhere. Access is quite difficult, especially if you come from the north so four-wheel-drive definitely recommended. The property is large with beautiful flowers, wildlife, butterflies that are clearly being taken good care of. We joined a trip to a waterfall cave, which was absolutely stunning, although a difficult trip because of crossing a river with quite strong currents, and walking in mud much of the way. Ernesto and his team member were super helpful and made sure we all made it across safely. We had booked only for one night, but this is a place you could easily stay for a few days.
