Besides the fine-dining restaurants helmed by celebrity chefs like Michael Schulson, you can grab a casual bite at numerous cafes and restaurants. After hours, check out Long Bar for a nightcap or go dancing at Premier, one of the city's hottest nightclubs.

Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

Best place to stay in Atlantic City. My wife and I had a great time. The live bands were especially great. Room was awesome. Food was even better. We can’t wait to go back next month.

After 22 years, first sub-par experience I have been coming to the Borgata since it opened. July 2003. This includes birthdays, bachelorette parties, company events, etc. I am always happy to be here - I nickname it "my happy place". However, this stay was sub-par starting with check-in. We arrived at 8pm, only to be told (nonchalantly) that "there were no more king beds available". Um, WHAT? This reservation was made 6 weeks or more in advance. This has never happened. No "maybe you want to upgrade" or any type of option. I'm not a complainer, so I said "fine". Yes, the 2 night was comp'd, we figure the room is just for sleeping so not a huge deal. We get upstairs to our room, only to find dirty towels on the bathroom floor and a TV that didn't work so we needed to wait for someone to come and fix it (now THAT guy was great and explained sometimes guests disconnect cable to plug other devices in). As a couple we now used both beds (which we sort of laughed at but we're seniors now and need some space). My bed had like a small "hill" or "lump" in the middle of it - IDK - it was room 1016 and the bed near the window if someone would like to check that out. We could also smell some sort of smoke or something from the vent. Not a huge deal but you know, non-smoking and all. It was just an "ick" experience and I've never had that before. This stay was to celebrate my 55th birthday btw. On the plus side I will say the cabana we used at Borgata Pool as well as dinner at Old Homestead was amazing and pleasant. Peyton was an outstanding cabana hostess - given the heatwave, always had a smile and working hard. Old Homestead continues to be a top notch experience - has been since day one. Sorry I seldom write about my experiences but I've had a long long history with Borgata and this was just not great. I'm happy to discuss this stay with anyone at Borgata if there's someone I could contact directly. Thank you.
