You will love your next stay in Mendocino at Brewery Gulch Inn. Top notch hospitality, a beautiful setting, delicious food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Lookout room at the Inn overlooking Smugglers Cove. Very private and quiet. The happy hour wine and appetizers in the evening are far more than advertised; the food is actually a dinner! And the best we had- better than our meal at Trillium which is so highly regarded. The made to order breakfasts are also delicious. We cannot wait to return.

Stay where reclaimed redwood and sweeping ocean vistas converge—Brewery Gulch Inn & Spa offers curated comfort, historic dignity, and immersive nature; Every moment is an invitation to rest deeply, reconnect with the land, and return renewed!

What You Get

  • Stay for 2 in a Standard King Room (Smuggler's Cove, Lookout, Heron, or Pelican)

Hotel at a Glance: Brewery Gulch Inn & Spa

Perched majestically along a rugged bluff above the Pacific, Brewery Gulch Inn & Spa stands as a testament to both natural grandeur and human craft. Its reclaimed 100- to 150-year-old “sinker” logs evoke the whisper of Redwood forests long past, weaving together history and sustainability in each beam and threshold. Expansive windows frame wind-sculpted pines and surf-lashed coastline, inviting guests into a space where modern arts & crafts design meets reverent homage to the land.

Within these walls, every detail speaks to careful intention: plush leather seating, wood-burning fireplaces, and curated local artisans lend warmth and character. Organic, regionally sourced meals—prepared by a chef versed in both tradition and innovation—become rituals of nourishment. In the common rooms, a fire crackles at the heart of shared moments, while the spa urges quiet introspection through forest bathing, sound therapy, and massage. All the while, the sea’s breath rides the wind, reminding you that this is no ordinary retreat—but a sanctuary anchored in the history of place.

Would not recommend We really wanted to like the Brewery Gulch. We had read lots of glowing reviews and magazine articles so we picked it for a birthday celebration. The location of the Inn is stunning. Our room had a beautiful view and a nice deck on which enjoy it. The room itself was just okay. There was too much furniture for the square footage and the bed was really uncomfortable. We both had sore necks and backs and were glad to return home. The breakfast was delicious with lots of choices, but we thought the happy hour/dinner setup was just weird. You needed to be there close to 5:30 or your food would be cold. We were there three nights and I would say one night was very good – the other two were so-so. (It’s a set meal so there is no choice although they do make adjustments for allergies.) It was three smallish courses so you didn’t feel like going out for dinner, but what else are you going to do in Mendocino after 6:00? The biggest problem in our opinion is the thin walls between the rooms. Why hasn’t anyone else mentioned this in their reviews??? When you check in, they have you sign something about not playing any music devices so they know it’s an issue. We could hear voices from both sides whenever someone was in their rooms. We were kept awake all night by our neighbor’s snoring, but most distracting was the noise from the romantic adventures of our neighbors. We felt like we were in a cheap motel at exorbitant prices! At least they provide ear plugs, but why should you have to use them out in the middle of nowhere?

Mendocino Magic One of the most special and wonderful stays I've ever had. A perfect balance of being well taken care of in a uniquely hospitable small boutique inn, while feeling like it was the perfect setting for a private and intimate couples getaway. Our suite felt spacious and modern, yet cozy and was filled with nice touches like heated tile floors, book lights and binoculars in the drawers and warm blankets on the leather chairs. Views from our room, deck, and the main room and deck were gorgeous. The included breakfast and wine hour was absolutely perfect. We are foodies and were delighted by the delicious food. We enjoyed the opportunity to try amazing restaurants at lunchtime, but it was so nice to be able to have a morning and evening meal on the premises. Bento boxes were a delight and we enjoyed tasting 4-6 different wines. We loved playing scrabble and drinking hot tea by the big fireplace at night before turning in as well! The concierge service was so helpful in helping us experience amazing days out: highly recommend booking the sea cave kayaking trip at nearby Van Damme beach, going to the Botanical Garden, getting a meal at Princess Seafood in Noyo Harbor plus hiking from the trestle bridge in Fort Bragg and going all the way down to Glass Beach. I will say that our room (Redwood) was not very soundproof, and being adjacent to the main room, we woke up way too early for our liking on the first morning. We were thankful to get the one sound machine in the Inn for the rest of the trip, which made all the difference for good sleep!

Brewery Gulch Inn: A Perfect Babymoon Retreat My fiancé and I were seeking a serene, accessible escape before the arrival of our baby. Mendocino's promise of fresh air, stunning scenery, and tranquility made it the ideal choice. Brewery Gulch Inn was an absolute gem. The moment we arrived, we were captivated by the inn's charm and ocean views. Our room, the Raven, was a cozy sanctuary perfect for relaxation. The staff was incredibly welcoming, and the nightly appetizers were a delightful surprise. A highlight was our day hike in Mendocino Headlands State Park followed by indulgent massages. The prenatal massage was a blissful experience, thanks to Rebekkah and the amazing Neemah skincare products. The Babymoon Package was perfect. From the massages to the thoughtful amenities, it catered to our needs as expecting parents. We felt truly cared for. We can’t wait to return with our little one to create new memories at this special place. Highlights: Stunning ocean views Cozy and comfortable rooms Delicious evening appetizers Exceptional massages Thoughtful Babymoon Package We highly recommend Brewery Gulch Inn for couples seeking a relaxing and rejuvenating getaway.

And then some…. After reading the great reviews, I’m so glad we stayed at BGI for a long weekend to attend a wedding. A quiet retreat located in a stunning location, our room was very comfortable with exquisite features. The view was great with a walkout patio overlooking the rugged coastline and visits from a small fox and hummingbirds. The Japanese soaking tub was a treat along with the quality bathroom amenities. The little fireplace was welcomed since the weather can get chilly. Having breakfast was a nice way to welcome in the day and loved the daily pastries and fresh fruits for the guests to enjoy with coffee and tea during the day. We unfortunately didn’t have the Wine entree because of meeting friends for dinner in town nightly. The menu did look inviting though. The staff was friendly, helpful in all ways to make our stay comfortable and welcoming. BGI is definitely a place I would recommend to friends and family because of the up-scale and exquisite quality amongst the beauty of Mother Nature.
