Honolulu, HI: Where History Meets Island Splendor

Nestled on the southern shores of Oahu, Honolulu stands as a beacon of cultural heritage and natural beauty, seamlessly blending the echoes of its storied past with the vibrancy of modern island life. This Pacific gem, once the seat of Hawaiian royalty, is home to the grand Iolani Palace—the only royal palace in the United States—where the legacies of King Kalākaua and Queen Liliʻuokalani still resonate. The city’s historic district boasts the iconic Kawaiahaʻo Church, the esteemed Bishop Museum, and the solemn Pearl Harbor National Memorial, a site of profound reflection and remembrance. Against this backdrop of history, the bustling Waikiki Beach offers a dynamic contrast, with its world-renowned surf breaks, luxury resorts, and lively nightlife, making it a magnet for visitors seeking both relaxation and adventure.

Beyond its famed shoreline, Honolulu serves as the gateway to Oahu’s diverse landscapes, where rugged volcanic craters meet lush rainforests and pristine bays. The ascent to Diamond Head Crater rewards hikers with sweeping views of the Pacific, while the serene Hanauma Bay invites snorkelers to explore its thriving coral reefs. Culinary enthusiasts will find a rich tapestry of flavors in Honolulu’s dining scene, where traditional Hawaiian fare, Asian influences, and contemporary fusion cuisine converge. Whether immersing oneself in the chants of a hula performance, savoring a plate of fresh poke, or standing in reverence at the USS Arizona Memorial, Honolulu offers an experience that is as deeply rooted in history as it is in the exhilarating pulse of the present.

DO NOT TRUST THIS HOTEL!!!! Was charge a different amount once I arrived. Paid $150 prior to arrival. However once at the location was charged $280. It was 2am in the morning and I had only 1 other option of renting across town and no shuttle to the airport. I they "got me". Do not TRUST this hotel or your booking they know how to play the cheat the traveler game.

Never again! This motel style (2 stories) hotel has definitely seen its better days. It is close to the airport but literally right under the H-1 freeway. The traffic drone was endless. It’s the first time I’ve ever had to turn on noise canceling background to actually sleep. The room smelled musty. The AC controller didn’t work. There was no maintenance person on duty so the front desk sent housekeeping to deal with the issue. He played with it until he finally got it to work. I arrived at 10:00 at night so I was tired and after the ordeal with the AC and noise I finally got to sleep around 11:00. The next morning when I woke up I was horrified to find that someone had put a plastic bag over the smoke detector. If there would have been a fire, it wouldn’t have worked and I would have been dead! I took a photo of this to the front desk and they nonchalantly blew it off. They had me email the picture to them so they could alert housekeeping to check and correct this in the future. Breakfast in the AM was marginal. Honestly with the noise issue I couldn’t get out of this place fast enough!

Avoid Building C I was looking for an economical hotel near the Honolulu airport for a one-night layover. I thought this hotel would work. I didn't know how close it was to the busy Nimitz highway. One building was nearly under the highway. Our first room was in that building. My wife and I stepped into the room, closed the door, and quickly realized we couldn't sleep there because of the excessive highway noise. We went back to the desk clerk and asked for a room in one of the other buildings. She said the hotel was completely booked. But reluctantly, she assigned us to another room that was away from the highway. The room was satisfactory, the beds were clean and comfortable, and we were able to sleep well after a long day of travel.
