Honolulu, HI: Where History Meets Island Splendor

Nestled on the southern shores of Oahu, Honolulu stands as a beacon of cultural heritage and natural beauty, seamlessly blending the echoes of its storied past with the vibrancy of modern island life. This Pacific gem, once the seat of Hawaiian royalty, is home to the grand Iolani Palace—the only royal palace in the United States—where the legacies of King Kalākaua and Queen Liliʻuokalani still resonate. The city’s historic district boasts the iconic Kawaiahaʻo Church, the esteemed Bishop Museum, and the solemn Pearl Harbor National Memorial, a site of profound reflection and remembrance. Against this backdrop of history, the bustling Waikiki Beach offers a dynamic contrast, with its world-renowned surf breaks, luxury resorts, and lively nightlife, making it a magnet for visitors seeking both relaxation and adventure.

Beyond its famed shoreline, Honolulu serves as the gateway to Oahu’s diverse landscapes, where rugged volcanic craters meet lush rainforests and pristine bays. The ascent to Diamond Head Crater rewards hikers with sweeping views of the Pacific, while the serene Hanauma Bay invites snorkelers to explore its thriving coral reefs. Culinary enthusiasts will find a rich tapestry of flavors in Honolulu’s dining scene, where traditional Hawaiian fare, Asian influences, and contemporary fusion cuisine converge. Whether immersing oneself in the chants of a hula performance, savoring a plate of fresh poke, or standing in reverence at the USS Arizona Memorial, Honolulu offers an experience that is as deeply rooted in history as it is in the exhilarating pulse of the present.

Avoid Building C I was looking for an economical hotel near the Honolulu airport for a one-night layover. I thought this hotel would work. I didn't know how close it was to the busy Nimitz highway. One building was nearly under the highway. Our first room was in that building. My wife and I stepped into the room, closed the door, and quickly realized we couldn't sleep there because of the excessive highway noise. We went back to the desk clerk and asked for a room in one of the other buildings. She said the hotel was completely booked. But reluctantly, she assigned us to another room that was away from the highway. The room was satisfactory, the beds were clean and comfortable, and we were able to sleep well after a long day of travel.

Not worth the airport location convenience This hotel is very old - desperately needs updating! The room we were assigned was literally under a very busy freeway. We were told we had a 2nd level room and had to go up steps (about 10) with our luggage - no one to help us. We had to pay 40 more dollars to get a room in the main tower with an elevator. We had booked through Priceline and paid about 240.00 for 1 night originally. In a horrible area with homeless people walking around outside, To find a restaurant we had few close options and otherwise had to walk about 2 big city blocks under the freeway! The noise level was horrible! The airport shuttle was convenient but not worth it considering the condition and area of hotel!

Go somewhere else, this is a ripoff. This hotel is badly overdue for a renovation. Everything feels old and worn, from the dirty hallway carpets to the deteriorating bathroom fixtures. The shower was stained, corroded, and leaked water constantly. For the price being charged, the lack of upkeep is unacceptable, and it’s hard not to feel that the property is being run for profit without any reinvestment in guest experience. While this may be marketed as a “bargain” for the area, a comparable hotel on the mainland U.S. would cost under $75 per night. Instead, you’re charging $175 per night, plus an additional $50 for parking. I understand that Hawaii is more expensive overall, but charging $150 more per night while clearly not reinvesting any of that revenue back into the property, apparently for years, is unacceptable. Even the so-called “free” breakfast is deliberately understaffed, making it effectively worthless. As owners, this feels like a deliberate scheme: extracting maximum profit while neglecting both your employees and your guests. It’s a “legal” con built on selfish profit-taking, and frankly, the way this place is being run is embarrassing.
