Maple Grove, Minnesota: Tree-Fringed Lakes and Upscale Shopping Close to the Twin Cities
CNN Money named Maple Grove one of the best places to live in the U.S. Much of its appeal comes from the natural setting—it's surrounded by seven lakes and groves of maple trees that turn bright red and orange in the fall. Maple syrup season usually kicks off in March, but you can buy the locally produced nectar during other times of the year at the Maple Grove Farmers Market, which is held outside from June to October, then moved indoors for November and December. Vendors sell fresh produce, German pastries, and homemade jams, depending on the season. Year-round, visitors flock to the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes to browse designer duds and savor upscale eats at nearly 70 stores and restaurants.
Head down I-494 to reach Bloomington's Mall of America, known as the biggest mall in the U.S. You can browse hundreds of stores or ride indoor roller coasters at the Nickelodeon Universe indoor theme park. The Minneapolis-St. Paul region isn't far away, either. Popular attractions in those cities include the Walker Art Center, the Hennepin Theater District, and the Minnesota State Capitol.
