Great Staff, Great food options, Amazing Entertainment I recently vacationed at Casa Marina (Sosúa) with my family and I had an amazing experience. We were a large group (15 to be exact) yet we were greeted with such warmth and genuine hospitality. The buffet was able to accommodate us sitting together for dinner each night as well as the few restaurant options in the resort. I was also quite impressive by the buffet variety. The food was really good and there was something for everyone. We also loved being so close to the city center allowing us to visit Sosua and not be confined to staying in the resort. I loved the pool entertainment they had daily given by both Nayeli and Giovanni. Amaury (Chihuahua) was another entertainer that brought amazing energy during my stay both hosting batchata by the pool and being the speaker/ dancer for the night entertainment. The nightly shows were truly impressive. As a dancer myself, I especially appreciated the talent, choreography, and passion that went into every performance. The staff went out of there way to include me in their activities. Each night felt like an event, and the fun always carried over onto the dance floor at the resort’s discotheque. By the end of my stay, the Casa Marina team felt like family. I recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a fun, easygoing stay. The staff and entertainment are truly the highlight. It’s not about luxury, it’s about the experience, the energy, and the people who make you feel at home.

A smoker's paradise; not so great for the rest of us This is actually a very lovely property, very well laid out, with lots of nooks and spaces, both more private beach and access to public beach. The staff was friendly and helpful, the views are beautiful. I'm taking two stars off because this is essentially a resort for smokers. There are virtually no spaces where one is safe from smokers - yes, technically you can't smoke in the rooms, in the restaurant and in the cafe. Except you can smoke right outside rooms (so it gets in the room); next to the restaurant and cafe (so the smoke gets in), etc. People smoke as they walk everywhere, when they are on the beach, when they are by the pool, when they are lounging - literally (not figuratively) everywhere. There is a lovely massage space to get a massage overlooking the cliff. Impossible to use because people can start smoking anywhere around you. If I were to ever come back, I'd need this place to have a large section of the resort to be a non-smoking area. A non-smoker pool. A non-smoker bar. A non-smoker section of the beach. Something where one could truly take a breath and not be constantly afraid of breathing in cigarette smoke (I'm allergic to it, and it doesn't say anywhere on the website that this is a fully smoking resort, so my time at the resort was very tough). Given the resort's layout that would definitely be possible but what they do now is not acceptable. (That being said, if you're a smoker, this place is a paradise). So I won't be back, which is sad because I really enjoyed everything else. But if you're a smoker, this place is great.

Run don’t walk away. Horrible vacation Hello, I want to share first that I had been to this hotel twice before and I’ve had good experiences before. I don’t know if it’s the Wyndham has taken over but this vacation has been terrible. Check-in was brutally slow and when I checked in they said only one keep her room. A foursome before us got four keys and I asked them why they got four keys for four people, and we can only one key per adult a couple. They said it was because of Security, which makes no sense whatsoever. I argued with him for about 10 minutes after which time so they walked away and tried to check in another person and I kept on bothering them and finally they gave us keys check in. I don’t know why it was so slow, but they had to photocopy your passports and have you sign a form and fill ina form which should’ve been done before hand. Room— a woman in line before us came back and was complaining that there was water from the roof dripping onto her bed. She was told she’dhave to wait till tomorrow, but kept on pressing them and finally got another room. When it was our turn we were told our room was notready and then we would have to wait an hour for it to become available when we got our room we found out the two beds were pushed together because there was water leaking on the on one of the sides of the room, which would’ve gone directly onto our bed back to the checkout and was told we’d have to wait till tomorrowbecause they were all full so we waited the day and got another room the next day and that was a whole other calamity, we got into our room and then out as soon as you try to turn the shower handle to the warm side water would completely turn off and just the dribble came out. We went back to the front desk and I said to wait for maintenance for an hour when he finally came back, he played with it and said the diverter was broken. I told him we know it broken because we do renovations and they weren’t able to do anything with it because they would have to tear the shower wall apart. Another issue issue we found was the bathroom tap needed a set screw and they took that away and came back with another handle so all we had to deal with was a stem from the bathroom faucet. The hairdryer was just left on counter because it was broken from the wall and that was not fixed either the TV didn’t work for three days and when they finally came back, they got it working but the general manager said that he would have to another one and that never came back. Also, the room key had to be reprogrammed at least once possibly twice a day because it would stop working and had to be reprogrammed this this happened this whole wing of the hotel. Other people were complaining that they had brown yellow water onto their bed. At least our water was clean Ihope. We were on the ground floor and they said it was from the rain, but I find that hard to believe. Very poor customer service and the hotel front desk manager, Milton Pimentel was practically useless as he would sluff it off to the front desk and then he would disappear for hours at a time. I’m the only good side the food was pretty good and the hostesses at dinner time were fantastic especially Alba. Many other guests were complaining of the same thing and many many would say they would never come back again. Given the fact that the Cuba issue was popped up price of this hotel went to almost 3000 at one point and was told from Halifax. It was near 4000 for a week which is ridiculous. The Wyndham should be ashamed to have their name associated with this hotel.

honest review - what you need to know A long, but honest review - what you need to know The reviews regarding Casa Marina are varied and after visiting I can see why. For a 2.0 - 2.5 star resort, it has its pros and then it has its cons: Pros: Decent location. You can leave the resort and walk into the nearby streets and venture. The shops on the streets carry the same touristy type of items. Cons: *The beach is terrible for swimming, most of time the frag is red or yellow, never green. No mild walk into the ocean. The beach area is very small and was closed the majority of the time we were there due to unsafe water conditions. *The resort is big. Food options from the buffet can get limiting for the 14 days plus vacation. *The 1st room fridge didn't get cold at all. Water and pop not cold. *The furniture has seen better days. *No phone in the room? *Hot water at time could be cold in the room. *Room cleaning was skipped 3 times during our 3 weeks stay. they just forgot? *The staff, they do a decent job however, there is a lack of knowledge of where things are happening and how to get things done. I found that travellers knew the answers better than the resort staff. Layout of the resort takes some getting used to. * No info board to inform on the evening activities * Land activities? Didn't find any information, nor location where, and contact person. Gave up. * When you arrive; there is no introduction at the front desk, they dont give you any information where everything is, what time dining and what and where entertainment starts; also poor entertaiment as mostly ballet style 2 partner danses. Get's boring fast. *4 story building with no elevator not suited for seniors or even young ones. *Desserts are repetetive with small cakes, limited fruits. *2 chefs cooks for eggs. Buffet style catering provides limiting 1 salad bar, 1 meatcheese and 1 main hot prepared. Bread, buns and croissants passable, often hard crusts.

Honest experience ⸻ We recently stayed at Casa Marina Beach & Reef, and as a 3½-star resort, it truly is exactly that. If you go in with realistic expectations, you’ll likely enjoy your stay. The standard rooms are older and a bit outdated, but they were very clean. That mattered most to us. We tipped our maid, Daley, and she did a wonderful job keeping our room fresh with clean towels daily. The food was better than expected. I’m a fairly cautious eater when travelling and tend to avoid certain foods, but I found plenty of options. The buffet had good variety. We tried the Italian and Mexican à la cartes — the Mexican was definitely our favourite with much more flavour. The Italian was okay but fairly bland. The drinks were great. At times the bartenders seemed a little overwhelmed, but service was still good overall. The pools were clean and well maintained. You do need to claim lounge chairs early — I was out at 8 a.m. most mornings to secure ours. A couple of notes (not the resort’s fault): there is quite a bit of smoking around the property, and the ocean was closed for a few days due to high waves. It looked unsafe, so we understood, but it was disappointing to miss beach time. Two cons that I feel they must improve on-1) we arrived at 8pm, no in offered to take us to our room- or even point in the direction we needed to go. After asking two other staff members we finally found a lovely maid who took us right to the door! 2) the PHONE HAD NO CORD! We had a phone, but there was no cord to plug it into the wall. We asked for a cord, it never came. This is such a safety issue! Overall, this is a solid 3½-star resort. Not luxury — but clean, affordable, with good food and drinks. We had a nice stay.
