Sandusky, Ohio: Family-Friendly Town with Amusement Parks Along Lake Erie

The town of Sandusky lies on the shores of Lake Erie, about midway between Cleveland and Toledo. It's a family-friendly destination with a slew of theme parks and scenic coastal islands. Cedar Point, open May through October, is one of the oldest amusement parks in the United States and a must-do for thrill seekers. The park’s Millennium Force roller coaster set records as the tallest and fastest in the world when it was introduced in 2000. More recently, the GateKeeper scooped up seven world records when it opened in 2013, including the "longest drop on a wing coaster."

If you prefer a slower pace, visit Sandusky’s former post office, which has been transformed into the Merry-Go-Round Museum. The grand building is full of antique carousels of all shapes and sizes, restored to their original splendor; it’s also rumored to house a couple of ghosts. More spooky fun awaits at Ghostly Manor Thrill Center, which features a haunted house, a roller rink, a 4D theater, black-light mini golf, and bounce houses.

Very convenient to Cedar Point Park! This place is pretty nice. It is in a very convenient location to Cedar Point amusement park. Our room was very clean except for the dust on the lamps. The staff in the store were very nice and friendly. The pool though is more for like younger children. It is not very big and it has a ton of younger children under the age of 10. I did not like anything about the hotel was the pool. And they did not enforce kids playing with unsafe toys. Both of my daughters were intentionally hit with toys. And the parents, nor the lifeguard said anything to them about being little brats. They were taking full water bottles and throwing them and making them projectiles towards other people. And they were taking Nerf toys and throwing them at people. Also, there were children running through the hallway, screaming. And no parents were monitoring them. And there was kids as little as five years old, running rampant in the hallways. It was not as bad later in the evening, but it was still was a little annoyance. Other than that, this place was pretty good. I would stay here again. But I think that they were draw in a bigger crowd if they took out the kiddy splash pad and made the pool larger. Also, I would not recommend going to the McDonald’s across the street. The prices are extremely high and they are 100% price gouging. They have higher prices than a regular McDonald’s.

Back to the future! Welcome back to the 1970s! Where the bedspread and decor are still a live and thriving. And no one cares! No hot water, I guess that is a thing of the future, flashing green light all night long from the smoke detector and all for 2930 pricing of only $400 a night! Have fun.

Hotel was fine, park not so much. The hotel was nice just like the last time I stayed there, but I was there mainly for the park. The park has become a joke! I don’t mind waiting in lines, especially during the busiest time of the year. What I do mind is waiting and then the ride being delayed, or getting passed up by 50-100 fast past holders. I understand they paid for that. But it shouldn’t be 20 fast lane then 5 line waiters… Maybe if SIX FLAGS didn’t lay everyone off the experience would still be as awesome as it used to be. I guarantee the reason rides get delayed and need maintenance so much is because they have made so many cuts and that’s bs. Dispatch times have also plummeted, millennium force was probably the fastest. The park just is not what it used to be. I’ve been there three times for vacation and this was the absolute worse experience. It almost makes me want to not come back. I love the coasters, it really sucks that six flags decided they know what’s best. You can absolutely tell they don’t care about the people anymore and only about that dollar.
