Santa Cruz, California: Seaside Town with Free-Spirit Attitude

Located about an hour and a half south of San Francisco, Santa Cruz is an eccentric coastal town on Monterey Bay’s northern fringe. The downtown street performers frequently transform Pacific Avenue into a stage with dancing, drumming, and historical reenactments of the famed Lincoln-Douglas mud-wrestling matches. The fun continues at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, a seaside amusement park home to thrill rides and a carousel from 1911. From the top of the Ferris wheel, you can take in bird’s-eye views of surfers catching waves in the Pacific.

A lot of potential but needs work Beautiful setting and nice, comfortable beds; but value for money was not there. Attention to detail, especially by hotel staff, was lacking. Resort fee of $40 a day (on top of high daily cost to stay here) to be able to potentially use pool, fitness center and tennis courts was too high. Daily parking fee of $20 a day should not have been a charge - we were already paying a high daily cost to stay at the resort. Food in the main restaurant 'the View' was not good. We ate 2 meals at the restaurant, one dinner and one breakfast and neither was top flight. The breakfast (two eggs, bacon, potatoes and a coffee) charge was $33.00 and the service was not good. Check-in was an adventure. Overall - the resort was nice; but not as nice as it could be...needs more attention to detail. Additional knowledgeable staff needed across the board.

Beautiful location, but the hotel requires a face lift This resort hotel requires remodeling. For $300/night (includes $20 parking, $40 resort fee and taxes) I was disappointed in the tired appearance of the hotel.

Absolutely magical! I had been planning this stay for my friend's birthday for months and boy the Chaminade Resort did not disappoint! I called numerous times in the months leading up to our trip to get information and/or add reservations/activities to our stay; and the staff was always very friendly. During our stay, we had pickleball reservations, a room service meal, spa treatments, a poolside meal, dinner and a breakfast at The View; in addition to tickets to the Nashville Nights concert series - all of which exceeded our expectations! This is an excellent option for someone that has a gluten allergy, as all of the menus include numerous GF options and it is well-indicated. The View restaurant staff provided excellent customer service and we truly felt like valued guests! The food presentation and flavor was top-notch! Best chilaquiles and GF french toast we've ever had! This stylish property is perfect for a tranquil getaway, with endless options of activities. *While hiking the "Green Trail" hike we did lose site of the trail path once it opened up to the disc golf area and we ended up out on the main road having to take it back up to get to the hotel, so the only feedback would be clearer markings on that specific hiking trail. Once on the road we saw the backside of the trail, but had difficulty knowing where it was inside the property.
