Beautiful location. Parking is an additional $75 per night (watch your bank app, I was charged an extra night). Then learned they use the public lot across the street and it's $56 per night if you self park. $125 deposit is not refunded for 3-5 days after check out. We will return since it's so close to family, but honestly, it was better with the previous owners. This was our 3rd time here.

Misleading Charges, Loud Construction, and No Transparency. Avoid This Hotel I booked my stay at the Ambassador Hotel Chicago back in April using my credit card travel points, plus an additional $218 out of pocket. When I arrived on July 21, I was blindsided by the front desk informing me that, since my booking, “new management” had taken over and my room now supposedly cost roughly $90 more per night. This surprise “fee” was explained as covering six bottles of water per day (which I can only assume is because the pipes have lead and they don’t want guests drinking the tap water), along with vouchers for their restaurant, bar, and breakfast. I booked a place to sleep, not to eat hotel food every day in a city known for world-class dining. I was never told about this additional $90/night before arrival, nor did I agree to it. The staff member at the front desk seemed to realize how absurd this was and offered me a “room upgrade”, from a two-bedroom to a one-bedroom? The rooms are sparse at best: minimal decor, stark white walls, and nothing special to justify any kind of luxury price tag, let alone an extra $90/night for water and meal vouchers. The next morning at 8:30 a.m., it sounded like someone was in my room with a pickaxe. There was construction happening above, below, and around me. I was on a working vacation and couldn’t work in my room. The so-called “business center” is just an abandoned bar area that looks like it’s used only for events, not a functioning workspace. The hotel likes to boast about its history as the former home of the famous Pump Room, but that’s long gone. What’s left is an old building with outdated rooms, lead in the pipes, and none of the charm or amenities one would expect for $160/night. To make matters worse, the hotel took my card for a standard $125 security deposit (refundable if you don’t damage the room) only for me to wake up to an unauthorized $695 charge to cover those extra fees I never agreed to. Chicago is not a third-world country, guests shouldn’t be forced into paying nearly $100/day for bottled water and vouchers they didn’t request or use. This experience felt misleading, overpriced, and deeply disappointing. Bottom line: If you value transparency, quiet, and getting what you actually booked, stay somewhere else. PS I have videos of the noise of construction on the room that I can't post on this review because it only allows photos...

It's gonna be ok but could be MUCH cooler . Not enough staff, had to wait long time in the bar and at the front for assistance. I asked for a microwave and coffee pot three times and on the third attempt the woman tried but eventually says that the man in charge of such things was gone for the day. No vending machine for a midnight chocolate need. This whole drink ticket and breakfast buffet ticket thing is a failure. Breakfast is not worth the money and the drinks are cheap unless you upgrade to a decent one for extra dollars. They need to scratch this whole effort on the tickets for bkfst and drinks and just up front give free breakfast with the price and call it a day. The hotel needs a refresh. Stained carpet, dirty elevators, boring white walls everywhere, the modern renovation sucks. Rooms are big, beds are ok, furniture is worn. Water pressure is amazing . Shower curtain too short and blows on you the whole shower. Linens were clean. Bathroom was clean. Ditch the modern. Paint and wallpaper this gem back into its glory days and decorate it like it wants to be decorated. Make it a trip back in time and light this baby up. Treat it like the historical figure it is.

Disappointed Two stars given just for location. Otherwise, the extra fees were worthless for us (didn’t drink or eat there) and the room was not at all as nice as pictured. The room was carpet (gross). Towels were super worn, rough, and old. The bathroom dingy and beat up. Furniture like old ikea, only one power outlet near bed, really loud and squealing shower. The room was also 78 degrees (!!!) when we got there but luckily we didn’t stay long before going out. It did cool off by the time we returned. They were quick to respond to an issue with the shower. We will not stay here in the future.
