Hidden Mandatory Daily Fees at The Chicago Ambassador Gold Coast - I will not stay here again I had an extremely disappointing experience at The Chicago Hotel Collection Ambassador Gold Coast during a major convention weekend. After a 24-hour journey, I arrived to find that the hotel could not locate my reservation — despite the fact that it had been booked and paid in full through Expedia, with confirmation and receipt in hand. This hotel was previously Hyatt operated but not any more, and it shows! They used this as an excuse for the failure to find my reservation. To make matters worse, I was told that unless I paid an additional mandatory daily charge (totalling around US$650 for a 5-night stay) they would not honour my booking. Exhausted and with few options given the busy weekend, I was forced to pay this on the spot, and informed that the amount was non-refundable. I was not notified of this daily charge at the time of booking and no matter how much the hotel says it is clearly stated on their website, this business behaviour is completely unjustifiable. This strong-arm tactic is unacceptable and has left a very bad impression. The issues didn’t stop there. On one of the days my room was left completely unserviced. I had been out the entire day, and returned to find the room exactly as I had left it - no cleaning, no fresh towels, no attention whatsoever. Worryingly, even at check-in, cleanliness was an issue. The bathmat/floor towel was visibly dirty, which immediately raised concerns about hygiene and housekeeping standards. Even simple, common requests were handled poorly. I had forgotten my travel plug adaptor and asked at reception if they had any available to borrow. This is something most major hotels can easily accommodate. Not only did they have none, but the staff acted as though my request was an unreasonable inconvenience. For a hotel charging premium rates, plus excessive hidden fees, The Chicago Hotel Collection Ambassador Gold Coast delivers a shockingly poor guest experience. I won’t be returning, and I strongly advise others to read the fine print and review recent guest experiences before booking.

they cancelled by reservations without telling me They cancelled my reservation without telling me, apparently as part of their departure from the Hyatt system. Front desk staff were polite but totally unhelpful, and are not able to make reservations - told me to use my iPhone to rebook. I won't return.

Ambassador Hotel Chicago We arrived at the hotel to discover our booking had been cancelled due to the hotel changing owners so we asked do you have a room. Oh yes but you have to book it on line. We tried their website and yes there was a suite!!! More expensive than our original booking. In a panic we tried to book it so we’d have somewhere to sleep. Got to the check out to find they don’t take Mastercard. The receptionist who I think was quite new tried to be helpful but her manager’s attitude was awful. She’d have seen us sleep on the pavement. No caring at all. Without any help we found another hotel and have had a great experience with the Loews Hotel.

Good The hotel in itself is gorgeous. Overly priced hostess/ processing fee. One should be informed of such extravagant prices before hand. I would like to shine light on’ Jaekwon’. This young man quite professional with a calming/ rationalistic approach to issues of dispute. Jaekwon was very helpful in assisting with accommodations to ensure comfort. I thank you’ Jaekwon’ for all you did to ensure my stay was of comfort and attention to detail. Continued success/blessings in abundance.

Avoid the Ambassador Gold Coast Hotel like the plague! If I could give ZERO for a rating, I would, but the system prevented my doing so. My husband and I never got to stay at the hotel because our reservation, made way back in March, was summarily dropped on 5/8, with no notification given to us. We were set to fly from our home out of state the following weekend to attend a family funeral in Chicago. Had my husband not double-checked on the reservation, we would never have known our reservation was gone. Family members had experienced the same dropped reservation-no notification a few weeks before and scrambled to find another hotel (they had intended to stay 2 nights). Fortunately, and not without some considerable distress, they did find a place. When that all occurred, my husband checked then, and was assured that our one night stay would be honored. Such turned out not to be the case when he checked again closer to our travel date. We were told the manager would be calling (NEVER DID) but also told by the front desk that no rooms would be had. So unprofessional, so very lacking in hospitality. Apparently, the hotel was no longer affiliated with Hyatt, and under different ownership, First Hospitality. I contacted them and learned that the hotel was no longer associated with their company. They referred me to someone at Club1 Hotels. Not surprisingly, I heard nothing back from that individual. After much hassle, with so many events going on in Chicago that weekend (3 back to back Beyonce concerts among them), we finally found another hotel. We will NEVER contact the Ambassador Hotel again, and why would we, after such unprofessional treatment?! Be forewarned!
