Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin: Chain of Lakes and Hiking Trails
Manitowish Waters is a tiny town in northern Wisconsin popular for its surrounding chain of 10 freshwater lakes. The fixed population is just under 700 people, but the town explodes with visitors in the summer months that come to swim, fish, and boat. You can angle for musky, bass, walleye, and lake trout on the open waters, and kayak or canoe through the interconnecting water system.
Head to North Lakeland Discovery Center to hike and bike 12 miles of groomed trails. There are also many gift shops and galleries dotting the area selling souvenir handicrafts made by local artists.
