Orlando, Florida: World-Famous Theme Parks and Cultural Surprises

Located in the center of Florida, Orlando may be forever associated with the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks—the world’s most-visited entertainment resort. Spanning roughly 30,000 acres, it encompasses four theme parks, two water parks, and five golf courses. There’s no shortage of things to do here: begin your day by boarding a rocket-shaped three-seater that climbs to 180 feet before entering a deep black tunnel and racing past stars, satellites, and constellations. Walk across the park to sample Moroccan cuisine for lunch, or ride a dune buggy through a haunted mansion. Before heading back to the hotel, take in the nightly fireworks, laser, and water show. One of the most popular family destinations in the world, sunny Orlando is also home to Universal Orlando—which includes The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—SeaWorld, and Gatorland.

Those hoping to shake up the typical theme-park-dominated itinerary can head into downtown Orlando's vibrant arts district. The neighborhood boasts venues such as CityArts Factory, a multifaceted patchwork of gallery spaces, and SAK Comedy Lab, which hosts family-friendly improv shows five nights a week.

Water Park has put us off returning When reading the reviews of the rooms I was really hesitant as many reviews mentioned cockroaches. I will say that we did find a dead cockroach on our 3rd day but this was the only time and we never encountered a live one. The hotel is convenient for restaurants on idrive and is only about $8 in an uber to Universal. We used the water park on one of our quiet days. Initially it seemed nice, we put our belongings outside on the sun loungers and were playing with our son in the indoor pool. As I walked to go back outside I was confronted by a rude member of staff who said "closed, lightning" "Ah fair enough" I said, as this is pretty common practice in Orlando. As I continued to open the gate to retrieve our items, I was again rudely told “CLOSED!” I explained that I understand the pool is closed and that I have no intention of using the slides, I just need to retrieve my belongings. However, they refused to let me through the gate, as though I'm some kind of water park addict who won’t be able to resist leaping back into the water. So I stood at the gate a bit miffed while the staff threw all our items together into our sons stroller. They brought it all back to the gate and handed the stroller over. My sons sunglasses were on the stoller and had my heavy packalack thrown on top of them, snapping the leg. They also failed to bring my book which I only noticed when I moved to a nearby table. I returned to the gate which had remained locked, I was furious at this point. It took me a while to get someone’s attention and as mentioned the gate remained locked so I couldn’t just walk over and look for it myself. My book had been bundled into a large see through sack with other peoples belongings and wet towels, dampening the book and warping a lot of the pages. We thought we were then good to at least continue playing with our son in the indoor pool but soon afterwards the indoor pool farthest from the opening is somehow also at risk from "strong lightning.” It honestly just seemed like any excuse to close the park. Most water parks when they close you get your things and leave, it is baffling to me that your belongings are held to ransom because theres lightning on its way. It actually took longer their way, as I said, pretty moronic. If your kid likes a pool and isn't bothered about slides, go to the one thats in the grounds of the hotel, it’s decently warm and you aren't being constantly harassed by staff like in the water park. Our room was looked after well by the cleaners and they attended daily. Look out for the bottles of water when you check in. They were sat next to the complimentary tea and coffees as opposed to being in the fridge, giving the wrong impression. There was a paper band around the neck with coco key advertising on it but in tiny print $6.50 at the bottom, so as mentioned be careful as I felt that this was done intentionally.)

Poor stay. Poor housekeeping, beds creak like a horror movie and dated rooms with no wardrobes.grounds and pools are fine but be prepared for card only across the site which we were not informed of. Worst place for comfort we have ever stayed in florida and this was our ninth time. Would not go back to this accommodation.

Overall pleasant enough Stayed here from the 23rd of September and on the whole our stay was pleasant enough. Like a lot of the reviews, the rooms are quite out dated but are spacious enough for the amount of time you spend in them. Another good thing is the free shuttle buses to Universal. The first time we where here in Orlando, it was $30 a day parking in the parks so the saving is definitely a benefit. What was really disappointing though was being ridiculously woken up at 429AM and 359AM on 2 days of the second week by skips on the hotel grounds being emptied. Sorry but that is completely unacceptable and surely there must be noise laws this breaks? This might not be the hotels fault especially but they surely should be aware if this. What was also disappointing was half of the floor beside is are being renovated and often this would result in banging from 6AM some mornings. Overall though the hotel is pleasant enough.
