Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic: Waterfalls, Beaches, and Centuries-Old Historical Sites

Located on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata is renowned for its sun-kissed beaches and breathtaking natural landscapes. Beyond its stunning coastline, the region boasts remarkable inland wonders, including Damajagua—a series of 27 cascading waterfalls carved into limestone. Guided tours take visitors through this natural playground, offering opportunities to swim and slide down smooth rock formations.

For a panoramic view of Puerto Plata and the Caribbean Sea, take a ride on the teleférico (cable car), which ascends 2,565 feet to the summit of Mount Isabel de Torres. At the top, you'll discover lush botanical gardens and a striking replica of Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue. A scenic drive to Parque Histórico La Isabela reveals the remnants of an early colonial settlement, including the ruins of one of the first churches in the Americas.

I truly enjoyed my stay in cofresi. The staff are very professional and friendly and very attentive to our needs, Glenis and Rigoberto are really good. Lifestyles are doing very much needed renovation and repairs to each of the resorts. The restaurants are not always available, which is disappointing. However, the food is very good at the ones that are available.

Great customer service and beautiful resort Great place to enjoy a holiday in the puerto plata area of RD/DR. The staff at this resort went above and beyond to help me with anything I needed. I would especially like to recognize Angelica Hernández for her excellent, professional and courteous service. Thank you Angelica for always going above and beyond during our two week stay!

IT WAS TERRIBLE My wife and I recently stayed at the Cofresi Resort in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, and unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. We had booked a Junior Suite through Monster, but upon arrival, we were placed in a standard room instead. The room we were given had multiple issues, including no hot water, a patio door that did not lock, and a non-functional phone. We reported these problems to the front desk, and although we were assured that maintenance would address them, no action was ever taken. Additionally, we found the front desk staff to be unhelpful and, at times, quite arrogant in their interactions with us. This lack of professionalism only added to our frustration. Given the numerous issues we encountered, we would not recommend this resort to others, and if possible, we would rate our experience as zero stars. They also charge for internet service if you want free internet you have to the beach! SUPPOSE TO ALL INCLUSIVE THIS IS A LIE This resort has not been updated since 2002 or construction they just painting over the problems. PLEASE PLEASE DONT GO TO RESORT

Horrific Experience Confresi Palms Beach and Resort Spa 07/09/2025-07/13/2025 I am writing to express my concerns regarding my recent experience with Groupon's deal for Confresi Palm Beach and Resort with access to VIP amenities. Unfortunately, I encountered several issues that fell far below my expectations. First, I was presented with misleading information concerning the resort amenities. The conditions at the facility were unacceptable, as I faced numerous maintenance problems, including a leaking ceiling, a broken toilet lid, and a leaking toilet. Additionally, the lack of hot water made my stay even more uncomfortable. Starting with our room, we were supposed to have Junior Suite w/ double beds w/VIP amenities and were only given 1, which appeared to be a queen-size bed. The bellhop called the front desk and made them aware, and they asked us to deal with it for the night, and they asked for us to come to customer service at 0730 the next morning. We were standing there listening while he spoke with her. We go to customer service the next morning, and the attendant was extremely rude, spoke very condescendingly, and said, I don't know if I will have a bed today or not. I explained that the bellhop called yesterday after we had checked in and told us to come at this time in the morning. She continued to be extremely rude and condescending and ,stated, "I'll put your name on the list." Never making eye contact, slamming things around, and so on. I requested to speak with a manager, and she said no one was there. I was so angry, I returned to the room and was trying to get a flight change and leave and return home. Then, some guy named Jose came banging on the door, alleging that the manager sent him to me so that they could work out getting my room changed. He told the manager said, "If I would attend this 1-hour presentation about the resort amenities, they would have my room fixed by then. Moreover, I felt pressured to attend a timeshare presentation, which resulted in 3 hours. I repeatedly said I was not interested; I only want my room exchanged, and the presenter claimed the manager was working on it. After the 3-hour presentation, the manager of the presentation attempts to convince me to buy a timeshare, and after I declined for the last time, he tells me he has nothing to do with my room; he was only in sales. I was livid. This is day 2 of my vacation, spent very upset with the way things were going. This was an unexpected obligation that detracted from my overall experience. To compound my dissatisfaction, I returned back to the customer service desk and requested my room change again and expressed my feeling of how I was coerced into attending this timeshare. The same young lady from the previous day was there, and I continuously encountered rude and unprofessional customer service when addressing these matters, which only exacerbated my frustration. Finally at 4:00 pm, they switched our room. We get the new room; it has 2 beds. However, we still did not have hot water, the air conditioner was not working, the ceiling in the bathroom was leaking water, the toilet was leaking water, and the toilet seat had a plug of material sticking out of it, which would cut you if you sat on it. The toilets were wrapped as if they had been cleaned, but feces splatters were still present on the toilets. This was the worst condition I have EVER stayed in, in my life. Getting to the food, the food was very cold each and every morning; the omelette station was the only hot food. We went as the restaurant opened; the food was being brought in on a catering truck each morning. This was totally unhealthy/unsanitary the way the food was set up. Gnats and flies were covering the food. I feared that I would get sick and only ate omelettes. Other uncomfortable situations were that we were not included in festivities on the site. I felt like 97% of the Dominicans were onsite and only a couple of Americans. There was a silent party that we attended, and the party DJ passed out headphones and walked beside, near, and in front of us and never spoke nor offered us any headphones. Other Dominicans came up after us, and she purposely walked around looking to give out headphones to native people. I was totally disgusted and did not appreciate the rudeness. We did not feel welcomed there at all. The Groupon ad is very misleading. It lists all these pools and restaurants when in fact you cannot have access to all of what is advertised. This whole operation is tied to Lifestyles Vacation Club, and once you go, they force you to attend a timeshare presentation. There is very limited access to VIP amenities. I was not treated with any kind of VIP amenities; this was a horrific vacation. I will never return to any resort that is associated with Lifestyles Vacation Club! I believe that what I purchased this coupon , I should have received a much higher standard of service and hospitality. I kindly request that you address these issues to prevent future occurrences for other guests. I will not ever purchase any Groupons that I don't fully investigate, as I feel like this was very misleading and misinformation. I spent 4 days in misery! I have never encountered anything like this in my life. I travel all over the world and have never encountered an experience like this. I definitely wasted my time and money. I am very dissatisfied! I look forward to your prompt attention to this matter. Sincerely, Onstarr
