San Diego, California: Electric Nightlife and Historical Attractions

San Diego's sunny, comfortably warm weather and 70 miles of coastline have long attracted out-of-towners, but the city's inland scene is no slouch, either. The Gaslamp Quarter is arguably the trendiest listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The area forms both the historic center of town and a hub of nightlife, with nearly 100 Victorian-era buildings occupied by high-end boutiques and gourmet restaurants.

A stroll through iconic Balboa Park takes you past 17 museums, as well as the world-famous San Diego Zoo. There's also the vibrant Spanish Village Art Center, a living gallery where local artists produce pottery and oil paintings. In Old Town, shops in Mission-style stucco buildings sell colorful woven baskets and maracas. Nearby stands the Whaley House Museum, dubbed one of the Most Terrifying Places in America by the Travel Channel. Ghosts of former residents are said to inhabit the rooms, which are filled with Victorian furniture and eerie dolls.

Great value and location We stayed 6 nights at this hotel and have no complaints. We traveled as a family of two adults, a 3 year old and a 1 year old. The location is unbeatable. We were able to easily get to all the attractions we were visiting in the area. It seemed like transit was also an option although we didn’t use it. We were driving an electric vehicle and there were two spots for free charging. We loved that! All the employees we interacted with were so friendly and genuine. I am not surprised by this as our first morning at breakfast, the person clearing the tables was the general manager ( we didn’t know that at the time). He was attentive and great with our daughter, giving her two tattoos and making her laugh. The next day, he assisted me at the front desk (it was then I noticed his name tag). Clearly good, friendly service starts from the top. The breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts we have experienced. There was a variety of different options and they were different every day. My daughter loved the fresh yogurt machine and I loved the muffins! My husband enjoyed the omelettes and the fact that there was a different type of sausage every day (pork, chicken, veggie) The pool was great and a nice temperature. The hot tub was also a nice temperature. The area around the pool was always clean. We used the laundry machines and they were great also. We would absolutely stay here again if we are ever in the area. I would also recommend this hotel to anyone I knew. 2 “cons” - we were in an adjoining room (not by choice) and it was quite easy to hear everything the neighbours were saying and doing. This was not a big deal for us, but if you had kids that are sensitive sleepers, this could be an issue. - the door separating the living area from the bedroom is basically entirely glass so if your plan is to put the kids to bed and then stay up yourself, you will want to bring some sort of black out curtain. We did and it worked great.

Economical and comfortable stay for a large group Booked 30 rooms for a high school band trip and was very satisfied at every step of the process! Sales Manager Breonna booked our stay and was so responsive in returning emails, and was professional and friendly, AND she gave us a good group rate. She was also conscious and thoughtful about how/where she assigned rooms for us in the hotel. Ashley checked us in upon arrival and was so friendly and helpful! She made us feel welcome (despite the large size of our group, which could be overwhelming to some). Complimentary breakfast included in our stay had enough variety and the breakfast area was large & clean, and they were cooperative with some allergy concerns. There was ample space for our 2 charter buses in the hotel parking lot. Our group visited both the nearby Zoo and Sea World, which were a convenient short drive away. Our students, parent chaperones and staff were well taken care of, and I heard no complaints about any of the rooms. I personally found the bed, pillows and linens in my room to be extremely comfortable. Our group stayed in rooms with 2 queen beds plus a sofabed, and the rooms had both a mini fridge and a microwave.
