Cambridge, Massachusetts: Historical City with World-Famous Universities

Cambridge lies about 3 miles west of downtown Boston, on the banks of the Charles River. The city has a long and storied history, beginning with its founding in 1630 by members of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Later on, the city served as an important center of rebel activity during the Revolutionary War. Cambridge Common, located on the campus of Harvard University, was a camp and training ground for the Continental Army. A few blocks away, the house of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow functioned as George Washington’s headquarters during the British army’s siege of Boston. The home is only open for tours from June through October, but you can stroll through the gardens all year long.

Cambridge is home to two of the most prestigious universities in the world: Harvard—the oldest university in the United States—and MIT. Both offer guided campus tours year-round; Harvard even hosts historical walking tours free of charge. The school’s campus encompasses three art museums and the Harvard Museum of Natural History, which holds 12,000 specimens, including whale skeletons and a 1,642-pound amethyst. While you’re in town, pay a visit to Harvard Square to browse the small boutiques and bookstores.

People are very nice in the front desk and housekeeping staff. The breakfast buffet was really good. Very nice view of the city. The room was clean and exactly what we paid for. Thank you!

Worst Hotel Experience ever! We stayed here for the Nike Volleyball tournament at the Convention Center. Jerry the manager did the best he could to make things right but this hotel stay was the WORST in my 51 years of hotel stays. I’ve stayed in other hotels in Boston and hotels in other major cities in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Costa Rica and never had a RAT in my room. The second night we were there, I was told that two of my daughter’s volleyball teammates had ‘mice’ in their rooms and were moved. We took precautions in our room (putting all food in the fridge, throwing our food garbage out in the main lobby, wiped down all surfaces with anti-bacterial wipes, and packing up and zipping our suitcases). Then I wake up to a lady yelling in the hallway about rats and having a baby in her room. We should have left that night because sure enough, the next night there was a RAT that ran by the armchair through a hole in the wall that was behind the chair. The manager moved us and comps but both Friday and Saturday night as well as for parking. But still. Worst experience ever.

Nice home away from home I loved staying here. it's close to a TJ's which is helpful and the people at the front desk are super friendly and helpful. I felt safe coming home by myself at night and the room was inviting and clean. Deyli was especially helpful, professional, and friendly at the front desk. Would definitely come back!

Hidden charges, smoke sensor This is my second time staying at this hotel. I chose this hotel both times due to its proximity to the MIT campus. The rooms are mediocre, they need renovated and updated for what they charge per night. The pillows are lumpy. They charge a $32 per day "resort fee". When you check in they give you coupons for $32 for each night you stay to use in their Japanese steakhouse (I don't like that type of food) or their morning bistro. If I am out of town and spending $32 on breakfast, I am going to go eat at a decent restaurant, not mediocre hotel breakfast food. They have sensors in the room now that "detect" smoke. I am perfectly fine with that, as I do not smoke, vape, nothing. I am having to fight a $500 charge for their smoke detector sensor going off in my room, on a day and time when I was not even in the room. The manager on duty at the time ( I didn't get his name, but it was February 17th, 2026 in the morning when I talked to him) was not helpful or friendly at all. He was not willing to help me get the charge taken off, told me it was what it was and accused me of smoking or vaping in the room. I asked him to pull hallway cameras to see that I had left the room and wasn't in the room at that time, and I was told that there are no cameras in the hallways. Very poor customer service from the manager.
