Manhattan’s Upper East Side: Star-Studded Neighborhood Close to Central Park and Museums

Celebrities, politicians, and some of New York’s wealthiest denizens make their homes in the Upper East Side, which ranks among the most affluent neighborhoods in Manhattan (property values here have the highest pricing per square foot in the United States). Located just minutes from Central Park and the Theater District, the picturesque neighborhood has served as the backdrop for a litany of films and television shows, from Breakfast at Tiffany’s to Woody Allen’s Manhattan.

The western edge of the Upper East Side abuts Central Park and the “Museum Mile,” a stretch of cultural institutions on Fifth Avenue anchored by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the largest art galleries in the world. With more than 2 million works on display, you’ll have to spend your time there wisely—check out Time Out New York’s list of “10 Must-See Works” for a handy reference. Nine other museums fill out the Museum Mile, most notably the Frank Lloyd Wright–designed Guggenheim art museum and The Africa Center, the first addition to Museum Mile since 1959.

Great stay on upper East side Most of the floors (we were on 10th) are newly renovated and our room was very comfortable and quiet. New carpet, bathroom fixtures, etc. Loved the Bevi water dispenser in the lobby and the coffee/tea/hot cocoa station next to it. Staff were very friendly and helpful. When our air conditioning did not seem to be cooling on Sunday night of a holiday weekend, a repair person came quite promptly and changed our room air filter. This did cause us a bit of a delay in getting settled, but was impressed the problem was solved at that time. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

$224 and Our Trust - Both Gone I don't usually post reviews like this, but I feel compelled to share our recent experience with the Marriott Courtyard on 92nd Street in Manhattan. My husband was scheduled for open heart surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital on March 30. We had booked a 4-night stay at this Marriott to be nearby, since they are listed as a hotel with ties to the hospital for patient families. Very late on the Friday night before, Mount Sinai canceled the surgery unexpectedly. We notified the hotel the next morning - just a few hours past their 48-hour cancellation window - but they still charged us a one-night penalty of $224. Despite explaining the medical emergency and reaching out through every available channel, Marriott stood by their policy. It didn't feel like anyone truly considered the situation, and no compassion was shown, even given the health circumstances and hospital affiliation. This has been a frustrating and disappointing experience during an already stressful time. I expected better from Marriott, especially under these circumstances.

Exceptional service I have been in the hospitality business for 20 years, own several establishments and know talent when I see it. Willie who runs the front desk at this Courtyard Marriott is a one in a million employee and if I owned something in nyc, I would do whatever it took to steal him away. Friendly, polite, prompt, and treated me like I was staying at the Ritz and he was the owner. I was blown away. Huge fan of Willie and this location. Room was large for a New York hotel, clean, and quiet. Great value
