Akron, Ohio: Akron Art Museum

The Akron Art Museum displays modern pieces and the collections feature 20,000 square feet (1,900 m2) of gallery space dedicated to the display of its collection of art produced since 1850. The museum first opened on February 1, 1922, as the Akron Art Institute, located in two borrowed rooms in the basement of the public library. Western art created between 1850 and 1950 graces the first floor of the museum's 1899 Italian Renaissance revival style building. Later the new museum was open to the public on July 17, 2007, and hosts visiting shows from national and international collections. Art since 1950 is featured in eight rooms located in the museum's 2007 Knight building. These galleries reflect the eclectic style of late twentieth-century art

Not a great experience We stayed for 1 night in early October of 2023. My wife and I had flown from Arizona to bicycle the Ohio to Erie Trail from Newport Kentucky to Cleveland (about 350 miles the way we routed it). During trip planning, I selected this Akron area hotel solely because it was near to the bicycle trail. I was not thrilled with the room rates but convenience won out. Upon arrival at the check in desk, we were not greeted with good customer service. In fact, the afternoon attendant was borderline rude. I then inquired how I could purchase another breakfast as I had prepaid for only one breakfast during booking. I was told that it did not appear that I had pre-payed for that and unless I showed some form of proof, I was not entitled to the breakfast. The person was simply not helpful. I had proof of the breakfast purchase and the reaction of the attendant was of surprise. No apology was issued. I thanked the person upon leaving the desk with no curteous return response. I would not recommend the purchase of a breakfast onsite in any event, especially for trail riders. It is small and expensive. Upon checkout in the morning, we rolled our bikes past the front desk morning attendant without a single word from that employee. Positives at this hotel include the workout gym (not used by us!) and the coin operated laundry facility. The rooms seemed clean but the view was really bad if that matters. Pleasant restaurants are very nearby. Because of the lack of congeniality by the staff and because of the room rates and lack of a complementary breakfast, I do not recommend this hotel especially for touring cyclists. If you are riding the OTET (Ohio to Erie Trail), I would recommend finding other lodging in Akron or simply avoiding Akron altogether. There are better options available.

Moldy and Dirty Hotel - Disgusting My husband and I stayed here for one night on 7/15/2023. I am Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite status so I spend many nights in Marriott hotels. I am completely disgusted with this hotel and the lack of management response. We checked in late evening and went straight to bed. Problem #1 - I awakened to the smell of perfume an hour or so later. Problem is that is wasn't my perfume. Someone else's very strong perfume was coming from the pillow. Removed pillow from the bed. Fell back to sleep. Again, awakened by same perfume. Realized it was coming from the bedding. EEEEEWWWWW!!! The bedding was dirty. Problem #2 - Husband walked out of the bathroom in the morning saying that he couldn't take a shower because the shower was filled with MOLD!!! Again, EEEEEWWWWW!!! Disgusting. Pictures are attached to this review. I complained at the front desk and said I wanted the hotel manager to call me. I gave my cell. Made sure front desk clerk had the correct number. Today is 8/6/2023, and I still have not received a call. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere but this hotel.

AVOID!! Bed bugs I got absolutely torn up by bed bugs. I shared this story with a colleague, who told me that he also got bed bugs at this property 6 months earlier. AVOID!! When I informed the hotel management, they simply insisted that it didn't happen at their hotel (even though it was the only hotel I stayed at that week). Still waiting for even an apology.

Tight Quarters We stayed here overnight on a trip through Ohio. It’s a very nice, comfortable, well maintained Marriott hotel. The hot breakfast was freshly prepared and very good. There were lots of hot selections and cold options. My only cautionary note is that the space between the king mattress and the wall is only 14” on one side, making it challenging to maneuver in and out of bed in the middle of the night without disturbing your sleeping partner. The bathroom however is very spacious.
