Hotel at a Glance: Cove Haven Resort

In 1963, the Poconos-based Cove Haven Resort unveiled a heart-shaped tub in one of its guest rooms and has maintained that sense of romance ever since. The couples-only resort, overlooking Lake Wallenpaupack’s secluded shores, features a variety of romantically themed rooms for partners to share the perfect getaway. The list of activities—like billiards, racquetball, and a video-game arcade, as well as live entertainment including bands and comedians—provides something for every couple.

  • All-inclusive options include unlimited breakfast and dinner at Colosseum Restaurant, nightly entertainment at Champagne Palace Nightclub, and access to amenities at sister facilities Paradise Stream Resort and Pocono Palace Resort through the resorts’ Key Around Club.
  • Fun in the snow: The area is known for its snowshoeing and skiing trails.
  • Things to do indoors: activities such as roller skating, tennis, archery, and swimming in the indoor pool.
  • Live entertainment: Catch performances by bands, comedians, and other live acts.
  • Adventurous dining: Every night is a different culinary theme—from seafood feasts to regionally-inspired dishes.
  • Treat yourself: Drop by the spa for a hot-stone massage or aromatherapy body wrap (for extra fees).

Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains: Downhill Skiing and Historical Towns

The Poconos region of northeastern Pennsylvania accounts for some 2,400 square miles of mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and forests. The area has been a popular vacation destination ever since Pennsylvania Quakers opened a hotel here on the Delaware River in 1829. Today, the Poconos draw more than 25 million annual visitors, thanks to year-round recreational opportunities and spectacular natural scenery.

In winter, locals often make weekend trips from Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York, and DC for one reason: skiing. One ski spot that’s particularly popular is Camelback Mountain Resort, which sits atop one of the region’s tallest mountains and boasts 160 acres of skiable terrain. For an extended run, head to the Nile Mile, which drops 800 feet vertically over the course of a mile-long descent. The resort is also amply lit for night skiing, and is the only place in the Poconos with a halfpipe. After you’re done hitting the slopes, take time to explore the handful of little towns nestled in the mountains. You’ll find boutique wine galleries and historical mansions, including the late 19th-century Asa Packer Mansion.

This is an absolutely beautiful resort! My fiancé and I thoroughly enjoyed our room and had a great time! However, read the fine print because what I thought was an all-inclusive package was actually the room only package. We had to pay an additional $185 on check in for 3 meals and the activity fees for two days.
