Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains: Hiking, Trout Fishing, and Historical Towns

The Poconos region of northeastern Pennsylvania accounts for some 2,400 square miles of mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and forests. The area has been a popular vacation destination ever since Pennsylvania Quakers opened a hotel here on the Delaware River in 1829. Today, the Poconos draw more than 25 million annual visitors, thanks to year-round recreational opportunities and stunning natural scenery.

The warmer months are a great time to explore the region’s lakes and wooded hills. For spectacular hikes, check out Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, where you can trek to dramatic waterfalls or follow a 27-mile section of the historic Appalachian Trail. A handful of little towns full of antique shops and galleries nestle in the mountains, too. You'll find boutique wine galleries and historical mansions tucked away on country roads, including the late 19th-century Asa Packer Mansion, which is open for tours, in the borough of Jim Thorpe.

My husband and I came to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and had such a great time! We thoroughly enjoyed all the activities, explored the resort, and even made some new friends. The staff are SO NICE and made our experience all the more enjoyable. Unfortunately, I suffered a medical event there, but the staff was quick to respond and extremely accommodating. They did everything in their power to make the rest of my stay comfortable and enjoyable. We will definitely be back!

Romantic Oasis My husband and I went for our anniversary and it was nothing short of amazing. The entire ambiance of the place screamed romance and was tailored to relaxation and connection. We loved every part of our room, we got the Roman towers suite and it was perfect. From the heart shaped pool to the martini glass hot tub, it far exceeded our expectations. They even have lots of things to do on the property like fishing, walking trails and paint ball. I truly think this place brought my husband and I closer. Would definitely go back.

Great weekend at Cove Haven Had a fantastic weekend at Cove Haven. DJ Godfather was amazing and kept us dancing all night. Every song he played was great. All the guests loved him. Gena the fabulous mixologist kept us in delicious drinks and she is soooo sweet. Billy O is a terrific host and CXO-you can tell he really cares about his guests and they love him. Desiree in dining is also so wonderful-try her Bloody Marys, they were delicious. Billy C hosted a romantic couples craft, we loved it. Forever Lovers weekend party theme was Throw back prom-which was so fun-everyone had a blast. Guests dressed up in different prom eras-very cool. Room (Garden of Eden Apple) was spotless. Pool in the room (this is the #1 reason we choose the Cove Resorts) was nice and relaxing. Grounds kept nice, and the deer were adorable. Nice gift shop! You can buy deer feed there as well. It was a perfect stay! Thank you staff, keep up the great entertainment! Love, BJ & Dave

Lovers Connect in retro & romance This resort has always been on my list of places to visit and reconnect with my loved one. The resort offers various activities that foster connection, and it is essential to conduct research beforehand. We had modest expectations but were pleasantly surprised by the champagne rooms. To make the most of our stay, we planned and prepared several activities. It is worth noting that the pools in the rooms can be cold during winter, so it is crucial to be prepared. We rented a projector to watch adult movies on the wall in the pool and against the curtain. Additionally, we brought a selection of adult toys to enhance our experience. Based on prior research, we brought a spare blanket to put on the bed, as some reviewers found the round beds to be uncomfortable. However, we found them to be comfortable. We also brought champagne and grapes, along with bubbles for the hot tub and champagne glasses. This aspect of our stay was particularly enjoyable, although we did experience some issues with overflowing bubbles. Furthermore, we brought duraflame logs for the fireplace and extra blankets to use by the fire or on the couch. It is also recommended to bring massage oil for the massage table in the room. We were aware that the check-in process can be lengthy, so we arrived early and visited the bar for drinks and games while we waited. The phone service in the area can be unreliable, so it is advisable to check-in periodically. We were understanding of the delay, as we knew the rooms were undergoing deep cleaning. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the bar, where we participated in various games, including trivia and bingo. Although we did not opt for the food package, we did have dinner and breakfast twice. The food was average, comparable to what one might find at an all-inclusive resort or cruise. In retrospect, we would recommend purchasing the food package, especially for a shorter stay. Another convenient aspect of the resort is its proximity to a casino, which is only a 10-minute drive away. Overall, we would highly recommend this resort for any couple seeking a romantic getaway. It was a refreshing experience for us.
