Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: Tropical Paradise with Cosmopolitan Flair

Puerto Vallarta is perhaps Mexico’s most sophisticated vacation destination, with expansive beaches, trendy restaurants, and cobblestone streets leading to beautifully preserved 19th-century churches. A 16-block boardwalk known as the malecón offers unobstructed ocean views as it extends from the city center, past fountains and a famous 9-foot-high statue of a boy riding a seahorse.

Called “the most gay-friendly city in Mexico” by Frommer’s, Vallarta draws a diverse crowd of vacationers intent on relaxing during the day and living it up at night, bouncing between the city’s numerous dance clubs. For a glimpse of the city’s history, head to Viejo Vallarta, also known as Old Town, where artists peddle shawls and piñatas and mariachi bands serenade couples dancing on Plaza Principal.

Very clean resort. Friendly staff. Food was what was expected for an all inclusive. Resort was full but never felt crowded. Would visit again even without the Groupon.

Good for the price This was my first time in Mexico and at an all inclusive resort so I don't have a lot to compare it to. I'll start with the pros, The property was beautiful and the staff was friendly and attentive. Bellavista is the buffet where you can get food 3 times a day and the food was actually very good quality for being a buffet. The service was absolutely outstanding, I did make sure and tip every time I ate or got a drink so keep in mind a tip goes a long way and is much deserved. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. The rooms are stocked with bottled water, beer, and sodas. The restaurants do require a reservation but the food was delicious. The pools were great and there were plenty of beds and lounge chairs. Cons, everyone in our group had rooms that could use maintainance, our room smelled like mildew and water was leaking from the ceiling, another was missing a mirror and 2 other rooms had poor or no air conditioning. Wifi was unsecured and not listed anywhere. The restaurants were good but food took a while and portions were very small, there wasn't a full bar or beverage menu so wine was the only option and was not free. And the bar in th lobby could use improvement, the cocktails were very sweet and all tasted the same, champagne was served warm. So it wasn't perfect but for the price it was fair, I would have been happy to pay extra for better drinks. I would stay there again and I hope to come back and visit soon.
