Myrtle Beach, South Carolina: Sandy Beaches, Golf Courses, and Classic Amusement-Park Rides

Myrtle Beach is the crown jewel of South Carolina’s Grand Strand, a 60-mile stretch of white-sand beaches along the Atlantic seaboard that draws surfers, fishers, and kayakers. The city was named one of the best vacation spots in the United States for a family by USA Today, in part because of its wooden boardwalk, which stretches for more than a mile and buzzes with carnival games and amusement-park rides. Hop into the SkyWheel Ferris wheel’s gondolas, surrounded by more than a million LED lights, for a panoramic view of the city below.

Less than 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach, the tiny fishing village of Murrells Inlet provides a tranquil contrast to the boardwalk’s hustle and bustle. At Brookgreen Gardens, more than 2,000 sculptures stand amid sprawling floral gardens and massive, moss-covered oak trees that have been around for centuries. Murrells Inlet is also home to the Tom Fazio–designed TPC Myrtle Beach golf course, 1 of nearly 100 courses in the area that helped Myrtle Beach earn its title as the seaside golf capital of the world.

Do not stay here Not sure where to start, from the moment I tried to use my key card to get into my room. I started to have issues. The key card didn’t work, come to find out the door wasn’t closed all the way because the hinges are sagging, and the striker plate was bent. It took a half hour to relieve that issue. The room is long and has a unique layout where you enter through a bedroom containing two beds in a closet that is impossible to use. The lighting in the room and a hole is very dim and everything is outdated. There were four of us in the room three stayed in the room with the two beds in our youngest daughter who is 14 stayed in the other room that had a Murphy bed and a couch. The bathroom is pretty tiny. The sink actually has the biggest area, and the shower and toilet chair, a tiny room, which is hard to maneuver in. We had an issue trying to take a shower with low water pressure, figured out a workaround to get the pressure to engage the shower properly. We stayed in the room from August 30 till July 8 and would kill at least 5 to 10 bugs a day . I called down on our second day to ask if we can be moved to another room, but was told that they were booked, but they could send up somebody to spray for the Palmetto bugs. I looked up Palmetto bugs and they’re basically cockroaches. My first night here I eat at the restaurant on site , I had a grilled chicken sandwich and nachos, the grilled chicken sandwich was dry and you get better nachos from Taco Bell. The lazy river and pools were always cloudy , and there was garbage through out the poll deck area, beer cans, juice, boxes, plastic bags, pizza boxes, etc.. The hallways were always dirty. The ice machines didn’t work and there was garbage all over the parking garages. We came with a group of 40 people, for a softball tournament, it was on a list of places that we had to stay at, I can’t believe that the tournament director would have this place on the list, I’ll be making a phone call to the people of this property, into the tournament director, and encourage the other families to post their experiences and social media.
