Myrtle Beach, South Carolina: Sandy Beaches, Golf Courses, and Classic Amusement-Park Rides

Myrtle Beach is the crown jewel of South Carolina’s Grand Strand, a 60-mile stretch of white-sand beaches along the Atlantic seaboard that draws surfers, fishers, and kayakers. The city was named one of the best vacation spots in the United States for a family by USA Today, in part because of its wooden boardwalk, which stretches for more than a mile and buzzes with carnival games and amusement-park rides. Hop into the SkyWheel Ferris wheel’s gondolas, surrounded by more than a million LED lights, for a panoramic view of the city below.

Less than 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach, the tiny fishing village of Murrells Inlet provides a tranquil contrast to the boardwalk’s hustle and bustle. At Brookgreen Gardens, more than 2,000 sculptures stand amid sprawling floral gardens and massive, moss-covered oak trees that have been around for centuries. Murrells Inlet is also home to the Tom Fazio–designed TPC Myrtle Beach golf course, 1 of nearly 100 courses in the area that helped Myrtle Beach earn its title as the seaside golf capital of the world.

Not Worth the Money We got 3 rooms for a 2 night stay and it was a bit expensive. We wanted all the rooms together but we only got 2 of them on the same floor and the third was in the first tower on the 10th floor, this wasn't great but it was manageable. The two rooms that we got were completely different from each other. The room with two beds and no kitchen was clearly cleaner and smelled better. When we got to the other room with the kitchen and single bed, it smelled. The room had a funky smell and it wasn't cleaned well. The A/C had a dusty filter and everything else was dusty. Behind the bed it was absolutely disgusting. It was full of dirt and didn't seem to have been cleaned in a while. This hotel was also not wheelchair accessible which is what we needed as we have a special needs child. When we also needed to wash our clothes, none of the change machines worked. We visited the one in the laundry room and it wasn't even on which then led to us visiting the extra laundry room they have and that one was completely sold out. We had to ask around for change and even then, the restaurant said they didn't have any. We had to go to a store to get change. The pools and water park was great but for the price we paid, it wasn't worth it.
