Samaná, Dominican Republic: Picturesque Beaches and Waterfalls

The Samaná Peninsula juts out from the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic, soaking up the Caribbean Sea’s balmy subtropical temperatures. Its tucked-away, sugar-sand beaches are its biggest draw, followed by its exotic landscape: according to Frommer’s, it’s “as Casablanca as the Caribbean gets.”

El Salto del Limón waterfall is among Samaná’s most breathtaking natural features. You can ride horseback through the surrounding forests to get to the falls, which tumble over 165 feet of rocks and tropical vegetation. On the Dominican Republic’s mainland, Los Haitises National Park is home to mangrove forests and limestone crags that peek out of the water.

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!!!! I was looking for a unique vacation to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. We had an amazing time. His response? “This was the best vacation I have ever been on”. We especially enjoyed meeting the beautiful people who live there. Yes, we will be going back!

This was the most amazing experience I've ever had. It didn't just feel like we were in the jungle, we actually WERE in the jungle. The first night here it rained and it was literally the best sleep I have EVER had. The beds are super comfortable too and although the jungle is known to be humid (and it is) you don't feel the humidity at all because of the light constant breeze. If there was one improvement I could suggest it would be that they heat the pool! It is open 24 hours but it is so cold at night to swim in it, which was a little disappointing for me. It didn't take much away from the fact that the stay was incredible and the area itself too. We rode bikes down to the beach and it was nice seeing the village on the way. The beach is super clean too and since it's a small village it wasn't crowded at all. A true paradise. I would definitely go back if I could! And I completely recommend investing in this vacation. I still can't believe this was a Groupon.

Stalked The property was beautiful, and the staff was amazing. I got three nights in the VIP room which was not cheap, I brought a guy I was dating with me at my own cost, when we arrived there was two men who didn’t actually work for the hotel but were allegedly friends with the chef and did photography for the hotel. They def fell in love with the guy I was traveling with, and actually started following us not just around the property, but even followed us all the way to Santo Domingo and tried to meet us again to try one last time to convince my date to get a hotel room with them instead for the night. I tried to be as friendly about it as possible, but for the super high expense that I paid for the hotel I thought it was kind of intense and disrespectful to me. So ladies know if your traveling with a very attractive man this could be a potential draw back to your investment of thousands of dollars for a few nights.

LOVELY EXPERIENCE for adventure lovers! be ready to see some little bugs The Dominican Republic has a treehouse hotel? Yes, real houses built in the trees, tucked away in El Valle, Samaná, one of my favorite places on the island. Dominican Treehouse Village is a full experience, not just a place to sleep. From the moment you arrive, you’re immersed in the jungle, surrounded by lush greenery, mountain views, and beautiful details. The contrast between the wooden treehouses, red curtains, and vibrant greens feels truly magical. Arrival includes a 1 km jungle walk to the lobby (arrive with daylight and pack light). The lobby itself is the heart of the property — restaurant, bar, chill area, games, hammocks — perfect for disconnecting. The property is filled with stunning corners: a jungle pool, fire pit with swings, Bali-style spots, and endless photo-worthy spaces. Rooms vary in size; the highest ones require many stairs but reward you with incredible views. There’s no air conditioning — rooms are open, cooled by powerful fans, and nights are pleasantly cool. Food & drinks: Breakfast is included (classic and Dominican options). Light food is available in the afternoon (sandwiches and soups), and dinner is either à la carte or buffet depending on occupancy. Simple, satisfying, and well done. Extras that elevate the stay: – $10 massages (amazing) – Included yoga classes – Exceptionally warm and attentive staff Good to know: bring insect repellent and embrace the jungle vibe — you’re truly in nature. Final verdict: Dominican Treehouse Village is authentic, magical, and unforgettable. Perfect for anyone looking to disconnect and experience nature in a unique way. Would I go back? Without a doubt.

Take It As It Comes, And You'll Love It We had an excellent time. The staff was so incredibly welcoming and attentive. The folks at the front desk/bar: Lisa, who checked us in and checked on us often; Alex, who asked if anything in the treehouse wasn't working right (we had a ceiling leak during the rains, for example) and sent folks to fix things immediately; and the clown prince of DTHV, Angel, who kept the drinks and fun flowing all day and into the night. Because of the absence of wifi or cellular connection (which was a major draw for us), the atmosphere lent itself to connecting with and getting to know fellow guests. The main hall was very lively. Our airport pickup and drop off were handled seamlessly and the champagne welcome on the drive to the village (we booked the VIP package) was a welcome touch. The zipline dudes were exceptional (and it was the highest zipline I've ever been on) and our guide on the waterfall/beach excursion (Leo) was terrific. Food was very good - not out of this world, but very good. If you're considering going, know that: you'll be in the jungle - it's rustic. That means no walls, no A/C and the electricity might go out on occasion. It's slippery when wet and it's not as bug-free as they claim (it wasn't horribly buggy, either - but you will need repellent). Your stuff (and you) will be damp for days. It's a three-hour ride from/to the airport and the drivers are nuts. In other words, it ain't for everyone. But if you go all-in and temper your western-travel-style expectations, you will be amply rewarded.
