Manhattan's Financial District: Wall Street, Skyscrapers, and the 9/11 Memorial

Once the sole province of day traders and bankers working frenetic jobs at the New York Stock Exchange and on Wall Street, the Financial District has attracted its fair share of full-time residents in recent years. Today, more than 56,000 people live in the neighborhood, which borders The Battery on the southern tip of Manhattan.

The population boom has helped expose the neighborhood’s occasionally overlooked cultural attractions. At the eastern edge of Fulton Street, the revitalized South Street Seaport historic district is home to some of the oldest architecture in downtown Manhattan as well as a fleet of renovated sailing ships and an up-close view of the Brooklyn Bridge. The district is also home to the towering One World Trade Center, which is now the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. Right next door, a memorial to the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks is now open for visits, along with a museum.

Disappointing for the high cost. Chose a different hotel. Visited NY to celebrate my birthday and for site seeing. Chose this hotel as back home (Uk) these are of very high standard. Unfortunately this wasn't the case for this hotel. The room was very small to say it was supposed to be a king sized bed room. A very small wardrobe only big enough for 1 person. The shower leaked onto the bathroom floor as the doors opens out onto the floor plus the water is only tepid, no hot water. We had zero heating for the duration of our stay even after reporting it. On our last night at 2am the room phone rang with banging on the room door with engineers attending to fix the heating problem. A bit late on our late night? For the size of the hotel and volume of guests there aren't enough lifts to travel to and from rooms. We were told they had a roof top bar but each time we went it was closed or being used for private parties. False advertisement. Reception were helpful and friendly but the hotel in all needs a huge communication re-think and product quality improvement. We won't be choosing the Hilton again no matter which country as it was a rip off for what it was.

Nice hotel but plan ahead around the elevators you’re going to wait Hotel is good. Rooms are good, clean and size was good for us but the elevators are why we won’t stay again. It’s a ridiculous wait which actually makes coming and going a dreaded task. We ended up just lugging around the things we bought because going back to the room real fast to drop things off was not an option. You hear them wooshing past you but they never seem to stop and if they do they’re full so you wait again. I wish they’d figure it out, otherwise it’s good.

Stay if you like long elevator waits The elevators were terrible! Very slow and tiny! The location isn’t the best. Not much close by for restaurants or shopping. Shower was too complicated. Took a scalding shower on the first day.
