Philadelphia’s Center City: Historic Landmarks and Museums

The historic Center City neighborhood, also known as downtown Philadelphia, dates back to the city’s founding in 1682. Today, Center City is Philadelphia’s central business district, with several skyscrapers and high-profile museums. The neighborhood is also home to Independence National Historical Park, whose high concentration of notable landmarks makes it America’s most historic square mile. While you’re here, visit Independence Hall—birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution—or head to the Liberty Bell Center to see the approximately 2,000-pound bell.

The shops of Historic Antique Row are less than a mile from here. The small, locally owned shops stock everything from oriental rugs to vintage clothing. Head about 15 minutes northwest to scale the famous steps outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where Rocky Balboa once pumped his fists victoriously. Inside, the massive museum’s holdings range from ancient Chinese art to famous paintings by Claude Monet, Salvador Dalí, and Vincent van Gogh.

This hotel had a lot of potential to be a beautiful place, most of the staff was very kind and helpful. But the hotel itself needed a sincere remodeling. There was a lot of visible dirt throughout a hotel and our room. The vents weren't dusted, none of the corners of the room were dusted. The curtains nor the shams were clean. There was hair under our sink and in the fridge.

Go elsewhere. The short version was that this hotel kind of sucked. We live an hour away but we opted for a hotel close to the Lego discovery center because my son loves indoor pools and hotel stays so for his birthday, this hotel fit the bill. Or so we thought. Most of the staff we encountered wasn’t all that friendly. The manager at check in was ok and the guy at the front desk, Jamil, was very nice and overall helpful within his ability and power. But the manager at checkout the next day couldn’t be bothered to tell us anything to our face. She hid behind the guy at the front desk pretty much. What happened was they had closed the pool for the duration of our stay due to emergency maintenance. Ok…but then the manager told us later on that day we could use it. In fact we had the pool to ourselves and stayed about 30 min or so. My son wanted to use it again the next morning before checkout and they outright refused to open the pool, citing the same reason even though we were granted access the evening before. They did us a favor and extended our stay but refused to open the pool so what was the point? They took 70.00 off our bill and called it generous. We straight up wouldn’t have gone there if we knew the pool wasn’t available. They told us nothing before check in until we asked about the open hours after the fact. We could have gone to another hotel in the area instead or hell, even gone home. And overall, the breakfast is barely edible and overpriced. The room was kind of dirty and the beds were low quality compared to practically every other hotel we’ve ever been to. There was little hairs in the corner on the floor of our bathroom from the last guest I assume and absolutely no clear way to contact downstairs by phone from the room so every time we needed to talk to someone, we had to go down in person. Also both the room, the hallway and the overall interior of the hotel had an old musty smell. Seeing the other reviews, I suppose things could have been worse for us but if you’re thinking about this hotel at all, don’t bother. Not until they get their act together.

Lazy Staff/Not family friendly /Ran down/Party type of Hotel The staff is still allowing teens at 12:30 in the morning to run the halls, scream from floor to floor, blast very loud party music, play and scream on the elevator, play football in the hallway and have fights with each other. It’s so disgusting and horrible. I came to sleep, but all I can do is get a headache!!! The music and them screaming is so loud!! Didn’t know this was a party hotel. The bathroom has hair in the tub and sink. As well as the tub handle not working.

Uncomfortable stay After staying over the weekend, we found the place to be very dirty. My one year old found a chicken nugget under the bed and took a bite. We didn't have chicken nuggets. The beds were half made. The pool hours were terrible. I will never stay here again. Very unhappy with my stay.
