Philadelphia’s Center City: Historic Landmarks and Museums

The historic Center City neighborhood, also known as downtown Philadelphia, dates back to the city’s founding in 1682. Today, Center City is Philadelphia’s central business district, with several skyscrapers and high-profile museums. The neighborhood is also home to Independence National Historical Park, whose high concentration of notable landmarks makes it America’s most historic square mile. While you’re here, visit Independence Hall—birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution—or head to the Liberty Bell Center to see the approximately 2,000-pound bell.

The shops of Historic Antique Row are less than a mile from here. The small, locally owned shops stock everything from oriental rugs to vintage clothing. Head about 15 minutes northwest to scale the famous steps outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where Rocky Balboa once pumped his fists victoriously. Inside, the massive museum’s holdings range from ancient Chinese art to famous paintings by Claude Monet, Salvador Dalí, and Vincent van Gogh.

This hotel had a lot of potential to be a beautiful place, most of the staff was very kind and helpful. But the hotel itself needed a sincere remodeling. There was a lot of visible dirt throughout a hotel and our room. The vents weren't dusted, none of the corners of the room were dusted. The curtains nor the shams were clean. There was hair under our sink and in the fridge.

There are numerous issues with this hotel. The rooms are disgusting. When you enter the room, you're hit with a strong odor. The walls have spots, along with the curtains and the pull-out couch. The toilet is yellow, and the shower is rusting. The TV shuts off randomly whenever you attempt to change the channel. The door to the bathroom barely opens all the way and gets stuck on the ground. The drawer in the bedroom is broken. As for the service, the bar staff down in the lobby were very kind and accommodating during our stay. Now, as for the housekeeping, they came in and only did our bathroom and didn't make up any of our beds like other hotels. This place needs a definite upgrade. Come here at your risk.

Worst hotel ever! We stayed in family room 525 having landed from a long flight. 5 people were sharing this room. 1. Light wasn’t working in bedroom 2. Power socket not working in bedroom (Desk informed and we were told someone would come up they didn’t) 3. Sofa bed not made up 4. On pulling sofa bed out after my other two children went to bed discovered no bedding 5. Mattress was wet in sofa bed 6. Flipped it over to see if it was any better on other side nope full of stains. 7. My child had to sleep on the sofa I Asked for manager on check out and was told there was none. I asked for them to contact me and they didn’t. The quality of this hotel room was appalling I have never stayed in a dirtier hotel and I have been around the world. I would have asked to have moved rooms but as I said my other two children were sleeping. I am disgusted to have paid for a room as dirty as this. This hotel is definitely more in line with a hostel and to be quite frank I have stayed in cleaner hostels!!!

You’ll Regret Staying Here (I Sure Did) I’m honestly not sure where to begin. I stayed here for three nights on what was supposed to be a fun getaway with friends, but this hotel managed to ruin the vibe almost immediately. If you’re considering booking—don’t. Just don’t. • Showers from Hell: There were no liners, the same grime-encrusted showerhead probably installed decades ago, and questionable water pressure that made every attempt at getting clean feel like a punishment. • Filthy Carpets Everywhere: The carpets in the hallways and in our room were visibly stained (I’m talking multiple colors), and it was debatable whether they’d seen a vacuum in months. • Curtains—Yes, Those Are Probably Blood: One curtain had what I desperately hoped was chocolate, but let’s be real—it looked more like dried blood. Nothing says “relaxing vacation” like forensic evidence next to your bed. • Noise All Night: Guests were shouting and slamming doors well past midnight every night, and the staff seemed completely incapable (or unwilling) to do anything about it. • No Cookies? Really?: They advertised cookies at check-in. There were none. Small detail, but honestly, it set the tone. It’s one of the small things I enjoy at DoubleTrees. • Plumbing Fails: The faucet handles were so uncalibrated you needed a master’s degree in engineering to figure out how to get water running—only to find you couldn’t shut it off easily. • Text Assistant That Ghosted Us: We tried texting the front desk about all of this on night one—stains, noise, showers, you name it—and got zero response. Nothing. Not even a courtesy “sorry.” I have stayed in budget hotels before, but this was an entirely new low. Save yourself the regret and pick literally any other place.
