Chicago’s Northwest Suburbs: Family Fun Close to the City

Each of Chicago’s northwest suburbs—including Itasca, Schaumburg, Bloomingdale, and Elk Grove Village—has its own personality and its own array of cultural and entertainment offerings distinct from the Windy City. Itasca, for instance, has a collection of Victorian homes and a quaint downtown area filled with boutique shops and a charming square.

In fact, despite Chicago’s proximity, you could find plenty to do without ever stepping foot in the Loop. Head over to Schaumburg’s Woodfield Mall, one of the largest shopping centers in the country, when it’s time for some retail therapy, or visit Lynfred Winery, the oldest continually operating winery in Illinois, for a wine tasting. If you’re looking to pick up the pace, head to K1 Speed for go-kart racing.

Nature lovers will want to check out the Ned Brown Preserve—better known as Busse Woods—where hiking trails provide up-close glimpses of local flora and fauna. Afterward, bring the whole family to Medieval Times, a dinner theater where you can watch knights compete in horseback tournaments while you eat.

Worth the stay. I was pleasantly happy with what we got. We had came from another hotel that was TERRIBLE. So getting to our room here was a breath of fresh air. The reason I won’t be giving 5 stars is because of the bathroom. However, the good things were the bed was decently comfy. Loved having a balcony even if we were looking at the parking lot. The man that helped take us to our room, with our luggage was very kind. They let us check in early. We used points for this stay, but it was nice. Water was nice and warm for a shower. Overall very clean.! Could use some upgrades but I am very pleased with our experience! We didn’t get to check the pool, spa, or bowling out… I wish we had more time.

Go elsewhere Everything you need to know in two photos. Worn out property. Staff who can’t be bothered. Definitely stretches the definition of the word resort. Dirty blanket, dirty tub. Limited on site dining. Small bathroom. I can’t find much good to say.

Could not enjoy the pool with everyone. Ruined my birthday trip. Not worth the money We had five people staying in one room, which makes sense because four can sleep on the beds and one on the floor, and when we went to the pool, they only let four of us in the pool. I couldn’t enjoy it with everyone. Ruined my birthday weekend. Thx
