Downtown Minneapolis: Thriving Performing-Arts Scene near Idyllic Lakes

Downtown Minneapolis is more than just the geographic epicenter of the city—it’s the cultural heart too. Sports venues home to the Timberwolves, Vikings, and Twins neighbor the lively nightclubs of the Warehouse District and the neon-lit marquees of the Hennepin Theater District. In recent years, the city’s arts scene has gotten a lot of attention, and for good reason: Minneapolis has more live theater shows per capita than any other US city except New York. Additionally, dozens of eclectic galleries complement the wide-ranging exhibits at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, which showcases everything from Japanese woodcut prints to turn-of-the-century European advertisements.

To navigate downtown with ease, step into the Skyway, the city’s ingenious solution to harsh Minnesota winters. The Skyway is a network of indoor, aboveground tunnels connecting a slew of buildings downtown. A popular stop along the way is Nicollet Mall, a shopping thoroughfare where cars are not allowed. This is where you’ll find the iconic statue of Mary Tyler Moore tossing her 10-gallon Stetson into the air.

Awesome stay! I reserved two rooms One for my husband and myself, and one for our son, his wife and 3 children. I felt it was a very good value for the price. We each had a room with sitting area, kitchenette, TV and another room with 2 beds each. It perfectly met our needs. The check in was easy. The front desk help was very knowledgeable and kind. I wish I had taken note of her name. On check in we received coupons for drinks. We don't drink, so we didn't use these, but it was a nice gesture. They also provided snacks beginning at 5:30 PM. The breakfast was great, too. We were near the pool and breakfast area, so I was concerned about noise, but we were not bothered at all. I would stay again without hesitation.

Stay away from this hotel! It was horrible Worst experience EVER. As soon as we walked in th door Seth didn’t not greet us with a hello. It was we have NO rooms ready come back at 4.. very rude. Bill was on a mission to kick us out in the lobby were we gathered with friends and family (very chill) tried kicking us out at 11. Becky at the front desk was out of control. She was recording kids that were on the balcony watching her cause a scene. She was yelling at kids to go to room as they were doing nothing but watching her. She was all the noise. There is no rule that the lobby is closed. Then Becky said as long as I don’t hear you it’s fine to sit here. Well she was upset about a room that was not associated with our group. She then decides to call the cops and kicks a guy that was sitting with us at the table. The cops escorted him to the room and kicked him, his wife and very young children out at 12:30. His family was in bed sleeping! I would never plan a trip here or ever stay at this location with the staff they have there. My sheets were never changed and had to get new sheets before we crawled into bed the first night! GROSSS!!!! A friend also in a nother room had bites all over her _

Great Value/ Roomy Suites This stay was perfect for my older parents. It is a huge building, but easy to navigate. We checked them in and easily found the suite. A very comfy bed with dressers and a TV in one room and a sitting room with a wet bar when you enter the suite. The bathroom was very clean with a sink and then another sink outside the room with a mirror. I hooked up my dad's CPAP machine, but one of the outlets did not work. My parents travel with an extension cord, which fixed the problem. The property is slightly dated (scuff marks on some of the furniture, etc), but not enough to diminish your stay! An omelet bar is advertised for breakfast, but the line was too long for my parents. They dined on the other hot food options. Everything we look for in a property, this place delivered.
