Garden Grove, CA: Where Cultural Roots Flourish Amid Southern California Charm

Tucked within the heart of Orange County, Garden Grove stands as a vibrant emblem of Southern California’s multicultural spirit. What began as a modest agricultural settlement in the 19th century has blossomed into a thriving suburban enclave, proudly preserving its agrarian roots while embracing the pulse of modern life. The city's landscape is dotted with citrus trees and historic landmarks that harken back to its early ranching days, while its annual Strawberry Festival—one of the largest community festivals in the western United States—pays tribute to its fruitful past. From the Gothic spires of the Crystal Cathedral to the quaint storefronts of Historic Main Street, Garden Grove reflects an enduring blend of tradition and progress.

Beyond its nostalgic allure, Garden Grove is a cultural crossroads. Home to one of the largest Vietnamese-American communities in the nation, the city’s Little Saigon district offers an immersive experience of Southeast Asian cuisine, language, and heritage. Family-owned pho restaurants, bustling markets, and vibrant community centers breathe life into its streets, crafting a sensory-rich tapestry unique to this corner of California. With its proximity to Disneyland, Huntington Beach, and major freeway corridors, Garden Grove also serves as a strategic gateway for travelers and families seeking both cultural depth and regional accessibility.

Not good We made our reservation more than two months in advance and checked in on their app at about noon. ID self at front desk to Kolotita as a scheduled guest. Room was not ready so asked to use restroom. Directed to restroom near fitness center. One restroom was out of service and the other one had a family hogging it for a very very long time. We finally saw a maintenance person who directed us to doors near the reception desk to where there is a nice restroom with 6 stalls. So why didn’t the staff let us know? At 1:30 pm We arrived at the hotel not expecting our room to be ready but still we let the front desk know we were here. We came back at 3:00 and still the room wasn’t ready. But we sat and watched multiple guests check in and go straight to the elevator to their rooms. Molly was great. When she brought us our room key at 4:20 she told us that the parking during our entire stay was on the house. Then when I showed her the ragged bath towel that housekeeping put in our room, Molly gave us two warm towels. It was nice that H/K came in to tidy up on the 2nd day. Unfortunately, it was the 2nd time we received a ragged bath towel. In my pocket book this is a $$$$ hotel so we would expect better quality. Additionally, on our last morning we had to call maintenance due to the toilet water filled up to the rim. Thank goodness it was clear. The old grout needs deep cleaning on the tiled floor in the bathroom. The hallway carpet is old and worn out. Lastly, since the kitchen was under maintenance the breakfast food was tasteless and cold. The evening appetizers were a joke, basket of chips, salsa, tasteless hummus with cucumber and celery. Not returning to this location ever again.

Sold my room from under me! We stayed here for 2 days as a base for visiting Disneyland. We arrived early and was informed our room wasn’t ready, fair enough. So after discussing, having paid in full, receiving a parking permit, and having our booking confirmed with reception that we would return very late to check in, our room was sold underneath when we checked in. At midnight we were informed about a so called walking in policy, first in first served. At midnight we had no choice to accept an inferior room, 5 people in a room for 4. I had to seek bedding and make up the bed as house keeping was shut. Wasn’t offered the correct room until 5pm the next day, whilst we were at Disneyland. Should have been a priority! All I’ve been offered is Hilton Points or $50 refund. Still waiting 3 weeks later for a result from senior management. I Have lodged a complaint with Better Business as the law has been broken on this occasion. Also special mention to the trash bags and dirty trays sitting outside in the hall way for a day and half, feral people taking baskets down to breakfast and loading up food for the day.

Overall great but... We stayed 10 nights at this hotel; our second stay. The location is ideal for going to Disneyland (10 minutes by car) and there are several restaurants nearby, so you don't have to go far to eat. The room is quite modern and spacious even for 4 people. A small negative point: the sofa bed is very worn and small, so it's not recommended for 2 adults, and the pillows are very used, so I didn't sleep well despite the comfortable bedding of the large bed. The breakfast is great, there is something for everyone (sweet and savory), and it's always a pleasure to see the lady who makes the omelets, she is really wonderful! A special mention for your croissants which are delicious (from a French girl :) The Happy Hour is a really nice touch. Regarding parking, I find it horribly expensive ($25 per night) because it is shared with 3 other hotels, and sometimes you nearly have to park backstage because it is full, so charging for it is not justified. The staff is friendly and accommodating when it comes to our issues, which is an excellent point in my opinion. I would conclude that it is a good hotel overall, but for short stays (2 or 3 nights).
