Fairfield, Connecticut: Family-Friendly Community near Beaches

Fairfield is widely known as an upscale bedroom community, a place where people come to sleep after working in the Big Apple (about 60 miles away). Fairfield frequently pops up on those “best places to live” lists for its safety, peacefulness, and schools (it’s home to the esteemed Fairfield University). It’s gotten praise for its thriving downtown area and fine-dining scene, especially for its Italian cuisine. If the action is too slow for you, the big city is easy to reach—a rail station opened in 2012 will get you to New York City in a little more than an hour.

Fairfield County supports a rich environment for the arts, fostering accessible art initiatives that reflect the region’s diverse populations and distinct traditions. Many enjoy the winter’s holiday season with a scenic drive to Silverman’s Farm for the best selection of pumpkins and Christmas trees. Stop by Jennings Beach, which has volleyball nets, a sand-castle playground, a skate park, and lots of boats. Fairfield and its neighboring cities have a number of kid-friendly activities—be sure to check out Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry, and the Stepping Stones Museum for Children in Norwalk, which has hands-on educational exhibits. Fairfield sits right on the Long Island Sound coastline, with 5 miles of beaches.

Tried it twice, not again. Extremely basic 2 story motel. Not a basic as in simple and clean but sufficient, more like lots of not quite right things. NOTE no internal hallways, all doors open right onto the parking lot or onto an outside balcony that looks down on the parking lot. No elevator so make sure you can carry your luggage or stroller or toddler up and down stairs. Very very loud street traffic noise (windows look original to building 1950s?). Very very bright parking lot lights, bright like stadium lights shining in room, (2 rooms different areas), very few electric plugs, awkwardly placed, tough to charge devices. You can hear not only the street traffic but the freeway is conveniently located maybe half a mile away and you can hear all six lanes of the freeway. Location is central to downtown Fairfield, and the diner next-door is great.

Great Location Pros: Location is great Pool is nice Staff were friendly. Continent breakfast was good. Cons: No fresh towels daily. No dresser in room. Fridge is on the floor & not easy to access. Pool towels were the size of feet like a washcloth. We would stay again.

Not a happy camper When I asked for the cost of the room, I was quoted a price of $134.00. Additional charge of $20 added to bill for what I later found out was for taxes. When I arrived the person at the desk should have quoted the correct price. The room was on the parkway side of the hotel and was noisy from traffic. At 11:30, people came out of the restaurant and the group sang under our window. My wife had to go outside in her nightgown to ask them to please stop as we had just travelled for 11 hours by car and were exhausted. Not a pleasant stay

I would go back next time I'm in the area Welcoming greeting at the front desk. Responsive to a request I made. Easy check out via app. Great diner next door. Convenient to downtown Fairfield. Comfortable lobby for meeting with someone who is visiting. The price was right. Loved the mural on the side of the building.
