My husband and I chose this hotel to because it was very close to the beach, shopping and dining. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary in Destin and we were upgraded to a room with a King bed, had a double Queen bed room originally, which was nice. The hotel itself was nice and well kept but…..I ended up getting bit by bed bugs during my stay there.

Destin, Florida: Sugar-Sand Beaches and Lively Fishing Scene

Think of Florida, and the image that comes to mind probably looks a lot like Destin. Located on a thin peninsula overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, Destin’s plentiful beaches are some of the whitest in the world due to the sand’s high concentration of fine quartz crystal. Lay down your towel at Crystal Sands Beach or Henderson Beach State Park, or go swimming and snorkeling at Jetty East Beach. At Gator Beach, you can watch alligators in action from the safety of a beachside bar and grill.

In addition to its beaches, Destin is famous for its fishing culture. The town was established by a fisherman named Captain Leonard Destin and still goes by the nickname “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.” Any time of year, you can find well over 100 charter boats (and a few party boats) in Destin Harbor, ready to take tourists out on the water. Every autumn, the Destin Fishing Rodeo draws more than 30,000 fishermen hoping to lure in sailfish, marlin, wahoo, and king mackerel—not to mention a big cash prize.

BAIT & SWITCH FALSE ADVERTISING!! Bait & switch. The first photo you see on the web site is a walkway to the beach. The balcony rooms face a highway. I have contacted BBB. We live in Jersey and we see that view daily for free. Why would we want to pay for that. We are scheduled to arrive in September and I already and not pleased with the false advertising.

Marriott can do better! This hotel is very overprized for what you get. It needs to be updated- breakfast buffet difficult to navigate; poor choices of healthy foods; elevator very slow. It also advertised as being right across from the beach which is misleading. You have to cross a busy highway, walk down a lane, and then pay a fee to use the public beach.

We booked there for a week. Location was good to where we needed to be for our event and vacation. The room was fine, no complaints there. The assistant manager, I forgot his name, was nice whenever we saw him. Those were the only positives. When we arrived after a long drive, we find out that 1 out of 2 elevators wasn't working at all. Throughout our time there, it was never repaired or no one came out to repair it. It was VERY INCONVENIENT especially how big the hotel was. You could take the stairs, but they were designed to exit other areas of the building and that wasn't helpful at all. So we were stuck with the elevators, which took extremely long to get down from your floor and long to get to your floor. Even though they had free breakfast, it was very limited and bland. The breakfast staff that worked there was barely present after they put the stuff out. There was an ice cream machine outside that we wanted to try out, but it was out of order until the last day when we were leaving. Very convenient.
