Newark, New Jersey: Historic Puritan Settlement Turned Bustling City

Founded in 1666 as a Puritan settlement, Newark is one of the oldest cities in America. Explore its lengthy history with a walking tour of sites such as City Hall and Penn Station. (The trains at the latter can get you to Manhattan in less than 30 minutes.) Don’t miss the gothic Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, where vaulted ceilings soar over stately columns and a massive stained-glass rose window.

Modern Newark is also worth checking out. Learn about art and the natural sciences at the Newark Museum, which features a sculpture garden, a planetarium, and the largest collection of Tibetan art in the Western Hemisphere. The nearby New Jersey Performing Arts Center hosts dance, opera, and orchestra performances. To get closer to nature, head to tranquil Branch Brook Park, where you’ll find streams, lakes, and forests with more than 4,000 cherry trees. An explosion of pink blossoms appears here in early spring.

Mother daughter trip This hotel is very clean, the staff is very nice and polite and acomodating. The breakfast is fantasticc and lots to choose from and lots of seating and tables. It has a 24hr self serve coffee and tea bar. They also have a 2 take-out menues. Chinese which was really good and large portion and Italian pizza. The beds and pillows are very comfortable and the room is spacious. The negatives are that the elevators are a bit slow and sometimes both or one works and no air condtioning in it. They advertise a pool and hot tub but there isn't (on expedia) over all it was very nice and clean

Stolen Vehicle Our vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of the hotel. Absolutely no security whatsoever for vehicles that are parked for park and fly. We were “compensated” with points. No accountability or identification of opportunities ensure this does not happen to other travelers.

Probably the worst Marriott property I’ve ever stayed in Hotel front door blocked by heavy machinery. Only one lift operating, which stopped unprompted at the second floor on each ascent. Stairs stank. In room coffee machine broken; first batch of coffee downstairs awful. Plugs on desk broken. Phone flashing red for no apparent reason; speed dial buttons broken. Clock radio broken. Hotel located beside eight lane highway, which itself is beside the airport runway. Noisy even for an airport hotel. No direct access to new Newark terminal A (admittedly not the hotel’s fault) so ended up paying $45 for 10 minute taxi ride to get there. Staff resigned but helpful. Breakfast basic. Room clean if dated, with comfortable beds, hot water and functional aircon

Worse trip EVER!!! As much as I travel I have never been so dissatisfied with a Marriott property in my entire life. Upon checking in we realized that there was only one working elevator, It would have been so bad if the hotel was sold out. The working elevator was extremely slow and ALWAYS stopped on the second without the button being pushed. There was no hot water for Saturday or Sunday. The refrigerator did not keep items cold. The toilet kept stopping up. The bathroom sink has a bad leak internally and I bet there is mold. The lobby door near the parking lot closed on my shoe causing me to fall and be injured. To this very day no one from management as contacted me.
