Ocean City, Maryland: Family-Friendly Boardwalk next to the Atlantic

Along Ocean City’s century-old boardwalk, you can savor wild-caught blue crab, play old-fashioned arcade games, and watch candy makers spin colorful saltwater taffy. The lively boardwalk, which stretches for 3 miles along Maryland’s eastern shore, helped earn Ocean City a spot on USA Today’s list of the “10 great places to have some fun on a boardwalk.” Kids can ride a ferris wheel and climb aboard one of the country’s oldest carousels at Trimper’s Amusement Park, a family-owned theme park open for more than 100 years.

Assateague Island National Seashore—a 37-mile stretch of salt marshes running from Ocean City down to Virginia—offers a peaceful reprieve from the boardwalk’s constant activity. The island’s famous wild horses gallop on the shores, and you can can climb up a vintage, candy-striped lighthouse, or hike the seaside forests to spot birds, including great horned owls, ruby-crowned kinglets, and great blue herons.

My fiancee and I really enjoyed our stay at the Fenwick Inn. No complaints whatsoever. Helpful, knowledgeable staff. The staff on the day shift even took pictures of us on our way to dinner. Definitely planning on coming back next year.

Good Inn - bad Wifi A nice place to stay close to Ocean City but a bit out of the main drag. If you need Wifi that is dependable, maybe choose somewhere else. Wifi dropped a lot and was not reliable. Pool and hot tub were great additions with great hours(until 10pm), and they seem to have a lot of great activities for families. Breakfast had the slowest pancake maker in all of creation but was fine.

Clean, clean, clean! The hotel was recently updated so everything was bright and clean. Front desk staff were very nice and helpful. The hotel has a shuttle to get you and your things to and from the beach. The pool area was nice. Lots of nice size parking spaces. I did miss having a balcony to hang things on to dry after the beach. The grab and go breakfast is in a small area that is packed and difficult to maneuver through however, it’s free. Would recommend staying here.

DO NOT STAY HERE DO NOT STAY HERE! The hotel made an error on our checkout date on their end. I have confirmation of the correct date from our booking. We were locked out of our room late one evening and almost all of our belongings were missing/stolen. The front desk found a bag with a few clothing items, but the rest was gone! Cosmetics, electronics, etc all stolen. They claimed that was all of our belongings. Management was very rude, unhelpful, and unprofessional. We filed a police report with Ocean City Police. Booking.com has also escalated this incident and is reviewing their partnership after aiding us in this situation. The hotel even tried to change the Booking.com reservation AFTER the incident was reported to cover their backs. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!
