Cambria, California: Coastal Village with Art Galleries, Beachfront Hikes, and Elephant Seals

The coastal town of Cambria lies about 10 miles south of San Simeon, midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Though the village is small, it has a host of attractions, including 30 art galleries in the downtown area and an oceanfront boardwalk at Moonstone Beach.

Just 11 miles north lies the famed Hearst Castle, the enormous estate that once belonged to newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. The building took more than 25 years to complete, has more than 150 elaborate rooms, and houses an astounding collection of Spanish and Italian art and antiques. Tours crisscross the 127-acre estate throughout the day, acquainting visitors with the grand rooms, cottages, kitchens, and libraries.

Location is wonderful. Walk to nearby restaurant, moonstone bar and grill or across the street to watch a beautiful sunset. Love all the hummingbirds and the boardwalk is less than 100 yards away.

Serene coastal Inn The place was immaculately clean beautifully situated. It was very peaceful. Loved it. Across the way from the end is a walk across along the beach and it’s worth being able to see the beautiful seaside and the flowers. The lady at the front desk was very kind and directing me to certain things I needed to understand about the room very easily accessible

Nice place but extra up charges for checking in early or having late check out off putting My husband and I came to celebrate our 40th anniversary, having stayed here twice before in the distant past. Beautiful location. Appreciated happy anniversary banner in room. We did hear road noise from our traditional king room that was way in the back. I received text before our arrival that for around $50 we could check in two hours early…for around $100 we could check in at noon!? If we wanted late check out, we could have it for a price. Never heard of this practice before. It was off putting. If this is a new trend it sinks to a new low. It sounds like a money grab and seems to send the wrong message to patrons. We will not be back.
