Fredericksburg, Texas: Historical German Town in Texas Hill Country

In Texas Hill Country, it’s easy to tell when you’re getting close to the town of Fredericksburg: you’ll start spotting “Willkommen” on the signs pointing toward town. German immigrants settled here in 1846, blending Teutonic traditions with cowboy-style farming and ranching. Nowadays, the farms have blossomed into colorful lavender fields and wineries.

One of Fredericksburg’s main attractions is tied to one of its most historic residents—Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, who commanded US Pacific forces in World War II. Nimitz’s father owned a steamboat-shaped hotel that was transformed into the National Museum of the Pacific War in the 1960s. The museum features a Japanese submarine used at Pearl Harbor, an American B-25, and many war artifacts.

I always love staying here. Quiet little adorable hotel. It’s not a 5-star hotel so don’t expect lavish luxurious treatment. However for those just here for a day or two to paint the town (or hike Enchanted Rock in our case), it’s perfect! Pet fee is really affordable too!

My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves here, I have to admit with mixed reviews I was nervous of the purchase. However thank God we had an amazing time. Our check in went smooth, we did check in close to 6 because we stopped at Enchanted Rock Park 1st.The receptionist was friendly and helpful. The room was ok however the grounds were amazing 2 pools hot tub 2 fire pits plenty of sitting space.
