Hotel at a Glance: Golden Nugget Las Vegas

The Golden Nugget Hotel has many of the attractions Las Vegas is known for—a casino, a spa, high-end restaurants and lounges—and none of them disappoint. Their spa offers the height of luxury with a sauna, whirlpool, and steam room as well as workout facilities. The casino also features a poker room with 13 smoke-free tables and special promotions throughout the year. If gambling isn’t your strong suit, there are many different shows and entertainment to choose from including dancing at the Gold Diggers nightclub or take in some live music with the 52 Fridays Concert Series.

  • Eat, drink, and be merry at the hotel’s more than 15 high-end restaurants and lounges; at Gold Diggers, for instance, you can hit the dance floor inside or sample a signature cocktail on the balcony with views of the Fremont Street Experience. This deal includes two buffet vouchers for breakfast or lunch.
  • Views of the Strip are visible from Rush Tower rooms, which are 20% larger than Gold Tower and Carson Tower rooms. All accommodations have luxurious amenities such as down comforters and 42-inch flat-screen TVs.
  • Game on: The hotel’s casino has won numerous awards from Casino Player magazine, including Best Casino, Best Service, and Luckiest Casino. The expansive gaming floor is filled with slot machines, as well as blackjack, roulette, and mini baccarat tables.

The Las Vegas Strip: 24/7 Entertainment and Fine Dining

With an almost unlimited variety of casinos, bars and nightclubs, and live entertainment, the general consensus along the Las Vegas Strip seems to be “go big or go home.” And you can go really big here. Make a beeline for the dozens of 24-hour casinos lining the neon-lit Strip to tango with Lady Luck in high-stakes games of roulette, blackjack, and poker; or grab a front-row seat to the city’s over-the-top glitz at nightly magic, acrobatic, and musical performances. Be sure to stick around for mealtimes—casinos on the Strip are known for their fine-dining restaurants and extravagant buffets overflowing with crab legs and prime rib.

Even Sin City isn’t all casinos, all the time. Go shopping at the high-end boutiques found inside most hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, or head to Fashion Show Las Vegas to browse racks at Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, and Saks Fifth Avenue. You can also virtually travel the globe in just a few city blocks, thanks to the Strip’s re-creation of the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, and Venetian canals. And you’ll find a surprising number of shows in Las Vegas for kids hidden among the raucous nightlife.

Not Worth It Stayed in Carson Tower. Room seemed fairly clean, but very outdated. There was minimal electrical outlets to plug in devices. No coffee maker. I suppose this is because they want you to go down to Starbucks and spend $$. Breakfast will cost you $30 unless you go to chick-fil-a or take a walk and go to Denny's. Bathroom was worn-looking. Couldn't figure out how to turn on shower. It had a lever handle, so it should turn. Finally figured out you had to PULL out on the lever. Apparently it originally had a round knob handle and when it broke, they just rigged up a lever to get by. No chairs or benches to sit and visit with friends except in front of gambling machines or bars or restaurants . I suppose they won't make much money if there were "free" places to sit. I've had worse hotel stays, but the Golden Nugget is nothing to brag about.

They don’t need you, and you don’t need them The rooms are decent. No blanket or comforter on the bed. The problem: the Fremont Street canopy directly adjacent to the hotel. And , of course, they give me a room facing the boom boom music emanating from there. They know this a big problem because they have ear plugs in the room. Guess what: ear plugs can’t block low frequencies. So for the contempt they show their guests they get a crappy 2 star rating. Oh… I did ask to change rooms after my first night. They said they were booked and couldn’t change my room. I know a BS story when I hear one. They had many people booking out and could easily have changed my room.

Surprising lack. Staff is excellent. Our room was worn and cleanish. Very good bed Air system caused everyone to cough and sneeze way too much.visible debris when turned on. Filter needed service badly. Mold in bath grout . Heavily spotted carpet that made any light soxs dark. Main reason for one fellow traveler was to “swim with the sharks”. Special phone call to hotel assured her that the pool was fully operational. BIG LIE . Pool had been dry for almost 4 months with remodel. No coffee maker/hot water pot in any room. Starbucks start at 5$ per coffee. Food and drink overpriced. 18 bucks for a domestic beer. NO drinking fountains or water bottle fill up stations. Bottled water was 6$ begs the question, what do they do when it’s over 100? Absolutely no chairs or benches except in front of a gambling machine.
